The Brownsboro Bears basketball team is improving each season under the direction of head coach Jeff Hutchins.

Brownsboro ended the 2007- 08 basketball season last Tuesday night with a 56-48 loss to Mabank in the Bi-District round of the playoffs at Wills Point.

Mabank improved to 21-10 on the season with the win while the Bears ended the season with a record of 15-18.

Mabank lost on Friday to Pittsburg 82-65, ending their playoff run.

Last season the Bears lost a close game to Bullard to determine the third seed in district. This season the Bears' earned their first playoff berth in 10 years.

With three of the starters from last Tuesdays game returning next season the Bears look to be in good shape for another run at the state playoffs.

Brownsboro will compete in District 20-3A next season alongside Palestine, Westwood, Athens, Crockett and Fairfield.

In last Tuesday's bi-district match-up against Mabank the Bears trailed early before tieing the game at six on a Tristian Warren free throw with 5:09 to play in the quarter.

Warren sank a second free throw to give the Bears their only lead of the first half, 7-6, before Mabank answered with a free throw to tie the game.

Brownsboro remained close to the Panthers most of the contest but could not get critical shots to fall late in the game.

Trailing by two, 38-36, to enter the fourth period the Bears began the period with the ball.

Seconds late Mabank increased their lead to 40-36 as the Bears were unable to tie the game. Mabank continued to increase their lead in the period as the Bears could not close to within two points the rest of the game.

Junior Tristian Warren led the Bears in scoring against Mabank with 14 points. Playing in their last basketball game with the Bears, Seniors Andrew Adair (9) and Joe Denney (7) combined to score 16 points.

Denney and Zach Bailey each sank a three pointer for the Bears.
