TASO Tournament on deck for Bearettes

It was small town versus large city last week in Brownsboro as the Bearettes hosted the girls from Robert E. Lee high school of Tyler.
Small town came out on top as the Bearettes defeated Lee by the score of 8-5.
Starting today the Bearettes will take part in the TASO Tyler softball Tournament held at Lindsey Park.
Brownsboro will play at 4pm this evening against Whitehouse on field four. At six the Bearettes will play against Grand Saline also on field four. Concluding pool play tonight the Bearettes will play John Tyler at 7pm on field five.
All bracket play for the Bearettes will be on Saturday. The first game begins at 9am on Saturday while the championship will be played at 6:30pm Saturday on field five.
On Tuesday, March 3 the Bearettes will have a bye before taking part in the Lindale Tournament on Thursday, March 6. Brownsboro will begin pool play at 9am on Thursday, March 6 with a game against Whitehouse. Brownsboro will play all pool game at the Lindale High School softball field.
In last Tuesday night's game against Robert E. Lee, Chelsea Holcomb took to the mound to open the game for the Bearettes.
Facing a tight strike zone Holcomb found herself in a tight position to begin the game. With bases loaded the freshman pitcher was able to retire the side without allowing a run.
Brownsboro came alive in the bottom of the second inning as the Bearettes pushed across two runs. Krystin Groothuis walked and was replaced by LeCandace Bell. Bell stole second and third base before scoring on a pass ball.
Carley Smith walked, then stole second and third before Holcomb drove her home with a sacrifice to shortstop.
Leading 2-0 in the third inning the Bearettes tacked on two more runs. Randi Smith doubled and scored on a single by Groothuis. Bell ran for Groothuis and stole third before scoring on a pass ball.
Robert E. Lee rallied in the top of the sixth inning to take a short-lived lead. Lee's rally was good for five unearned runs as the Bearettes committed two errors in the inning.
Trailing 5-4 entering the bottom half of the sixth inning the Bearettes needed to score quick as they were down to six outs in the game.
Groothuis singled to get the Brownsboro rally started. Bell ran for Groothuis once again and stole both second and third base.
Carley Smith doubled to drive in Bell to tie the game at five. Smith stole third base before Stefani Vause drew a walk to put runners on the corners for Malea Sims.
Sims tripled to drive in both Smith and Vause to increase the Bearettes lead to 7- 5. Selina Wallace drove in Sims for the Bearettes final run of the game.
Krystin Groothuis picked up the win for the Bearettes as she came in during the top half of the second inning.
`KG' struck out eight batters in 5 2/3 innings pitched while allowing six hits and one walk. She earned her fourth win of the season.
Groothuis was perfect from the plate as she got two hits in two official appearances. Lindsey Wood, Randi Smith, Carley Smith, Sims and Wallace all had hits for the Bearettes.
Bell lit up the bases as she stole six bases and scored three runs while pinch running for Brownsboro pitcher Krystin Groothuis.
Heading into Tuesday night's game against Kaufman the Bearettes record on the season was 6-1.
