St. Boniface Catholic On the Fourth Sunday of Lent, members of St. Boniface heard the account of Jesus restoring the sight of a man "blind from birth." In his homily, Fr. Jesse asked us to focus on the response to Jesus by the others in the story. Who is Jesus, really? The blind man was on a spiritual journey throughout his interrogation by the Pharisees. First, he refers to Jesus as a prophet, then when questioned again, as `one sent by God.' Jesus restored more than his eyesight ... Jesus gave the blind man eternal life! The Pharisees were confused and did not believe Jesus to be the Son of God. Their indecision led to their own indictment. The blind man decided to believe and then worshiped Jesus. While we can prefer to remain safe in the'gray' area of indecision, we are called to remove the veil from our eyes and bring ourselves to the living Christ. Members enjoyed refresh- ments following Mass. Iris Mamo, DRE showed the fourth installment of our Lenten devotion. This week we reviewed the gifts of the Holy Spirit: wisdom, knowledge, understanding, counsel, fortitude, piety (holiness) and fear of the Lord. How are you using your gifts? During Lent we are encouraged to search deep within our hearts and check on the gifts we are using and on those we have neglected. Iris challenged us to `dust' our gifts off and use them to the delight of the Lord. Following the 12:30 Spanish Mass there was a `surprise' celebration in honor of Kay Chavez's birthday! Kay is the backbone of St. Boniface and we appreciate and love her so very much! God bless you, Kay! Mark your calendars for the upcoming events at St. Boniface: First Friday Adoration begins at 5:00 pm on Friday, March 7 with Stations of the Cross at 6:00 pm. The Holy Eucharist will be celebrated following Stations. There will be a special second collection on March 8th and 9th at all Masses for flowers for the Easter Altar. Anyone wishing to make their donation in honor or memory of a loved one, please give the information to Sue Beams in order to be included in the Easter bulletin. The ladies of the Altar Society will meet at 6:30 pm on Monday, March 10th in the CCD building. Iris Mamo will be the facilitator. ALL ladies of the Parish are invited. Refreshments will be served. March is traditionally the month we nominate officers for the next year. Please be thinking about this and pray that we will find a President to carry on the rich traditions of this group. Participants in The Passion Play have been spotted burning the midnight oil in preparation for the March 15th and 16th production. The play starts at 7:30 each evening at the church grounds. Please make plans to attend this journey through the passion and death of Christ. Admission is free. Congratulations and best wishes to all who are celebrating birthdays and anniversaries. We ask for comfort for those who are sick and suffering. Remember, too, the faithful departed; may they rest in peace. We continue to pray for the men and women in the armed services as they protect and defend our freedom. |
