MISD orders trustee election
By Nathan Straus News Reporter

Murchison Independent School District has set a date for its school board of trustees election. Several board members are up for re-election this time around.

Gerald Wood, Rusty Abney and Shiree Head will be the trustees on the ballot for the election, set for Saturday, May 10.

The school board approved in its February 21 meeting the appointing of an election judge for the process; Larry Van Deman. The board also appointed Ann Hornsby as the early voting clerk for the election, and Van Deman's clerks as the early vote ballot board.

Megan Reeves, MISD business manager, was appointed as agent to represent the secretary of the school board in fulfilling election duties.

The early voting period will take place from March 10 to March 17. Early voting and regular voting will last from 7 am to 4 pm, with early voting placed in the elementary school building and regular voting in the rock building library.

In addition to issues of voting, the board also touched on the creation of a committee to review superintendent

applications. Former superintendent Scott Beene resigned in January.

Reeves said Beverly Seston, Gerald Wood and Sheryl Sims are on the application committee

A policy update was put forth to be approved by the school. Among the policies addressed in the update were issues such as special education students' graduation, eligibility for all students for extracurricular activities, community issues and governmental issues.

After approving a policy update for the school, the board of trustees reviewed several bids for facility-related maintenance.

Following a period of debate, the board decided not to have all the school's exterior locks re-keyed alike.

"We're going to find bids for a master key," Reeves said.

Regarding bids for replacing the exterior carpet at the rock building, Reeves said the bids will be done in early March.

Finally, it was revealed that the board would not be able to make a lease purchase on the cafeteria at the time of the meeting.

Before adjourning the meeting, the board changed the date of the March board meeting to March 13.
