It is hard to earn a college scholarship for sports. It is even harder to earn a scholarship in a sport that your high school does not offer.

Brownsboro High School's Charli Beall overcame the fact that BHS does not offer soccer program last Thursday as she signed a scholarship offer from Louisiana State University of Shreveport.

Since she was four years old Beall has played soccer on some level. For the past seven years she has played on the East Texas Spirit.

The 17-year old, 5'4" forward will study Speech-Pathology at LSUS while attending school on a partial scholarship for soccer.

LSUS is a member of the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics and the Gulf Coast Athletics Conference. LSUS is a Divsion I program that was established in 2005.

In three seasons the Lady Pilots have an overall record of 37-18-1. In 2006 Head Coach Jed Jones was named the GCAC coach of the year as the team earned the GCAC championship.

The Lady Pilots have appeared in three consecutive Region XIII tournaments and was a region semifinalist in 2007.

While playing for Spirit head Coach Trey Carlile, Beall was a top scorer on the Division-two team. The majority of the Spirit's games are played in the Dallas area.

Carlile was the former girls soccer coach at East Texas Baptist University.

Beall was spotted by the LSUS Lady Pilots head coach Jed Jones through tournament action across the United States.

"LSUS spotted Charli at a club soccer tournament last year in Dallas." East Texas Spirit's Girls Director of

Coaching Stefani Webb said. "Coach Jones called me and asked if she would be interested in going to LSUS."

"We took the East Texas Spirit girls team down there last spring to play against his team and Charli showed very well. Coach Jones spoke with us over the next few months and offered Charli a scholarship and spot on his 2008 team."

As a senior at Brownsboro High School Beall is the Student Council President, a National Honor Society member and an academic award winner in science.

On top of her time spent devoted to soccer Beall has found the time to volunteer at St. Louis School for Exceptional Children in Tyler.

Without soccer, Beall found another way to make her athletic talents known at BHS. She is the school record holder in 3200M run and finished sixth place at Regionals in the 3200M.

She has lettered in Track and Cross Country and has also qualified for regionals in the 1600M run. She will continue to wear the colors of blue and gold while performing in athletics as LSUS uses the same colors as BHS.

"Charli has worked very hard over the past few years to put herself in a position to play college soccer and I am so proud of her for finding a school that she can be proud to play at. I am very happy and proud of Charli and know she'll be very happy with her choice," Webb said.

Stefani Webb is also the Head Women's Soccer Coach at the University of Texas at Tyler

Charli is the daughter of David and Jill Beall of Chandler.
