Bears shutdown by Mother Nature

Brownsboro at Westwood, canceled. Athens Tournament, canceled. Home opener vs Palestine rescheduled to be played in Palestine. Mother Nature is doing her best to keep the Brownsboro Bears baseball team off the field.
Rain and snow have kept the Bears off the field as they try to prepare for District 14- 3A play. District games begin on Tuesday as the Bears host Van at 6p.m.
Last week the Bears played in the Athens Tournament on Thursday against Crandall. Last year the Crandall Pirates won the tournament.
Filling in for Ryan Epperson, Clint Cunieff picked up the 9-8 win for the Bears. He pitched four innings and struck out four batters.
Epperson is expected to be out of the lineup for two or three weeks as he recovers from knee surgery.
Brownsboro's game against Crandall ended in an eight all tie after four innings due to the rain. Brownsboro won the tie breaker.
In the first inning of play senior Keaton Parsell launched his third homerun of the season to give the Bears a 2-0 lead. Parsell's homerun was an estimated 380 foot shot.
Brownsboro added to its lead in the second inning. The Bears scored five runs on three hits. Collin Wilson and Ryan Smith each drove in two runs in the inning.
Parsell drew a walk in the fourth inning before scoring on a double by Daniel Suggs. Crandall rallied to score eight runs in the fourth inning on eight hits.
Suggs was 2-3 at the plate while Parsell was 1-1 with two walks.
On Friday the Bears are scheduled to host All Saints at 6p.m. As of Tuesday the Bears are 3-7 on the season.
Heading into Friday's game against All Saints Collin Wilson leads the Bears in hits and stolen bases. Wilson has 15 hits on the season, posts a .405 batting average and has stolen eight bases.
Parsell leads the Bears in RBIs, 11, and homeruns,3. As a pitcher he leads the team in ERA (3.50) and is tied for the team lead in strike outs (18). He has only allowed 10 hits all season.
As a team the Bears are batting .316 with 41 runs scored.
