County sales taxes up from 2007 The Chandler and Brownsboro area's sales tax allocation rose some from March of last year. The total county sales tax in March has risen 6.85 percent over what last year's March allocation was. In 2008 up to March the county received $2,343,299.61. Last year to March Henderson County took in $2,236,469.75, a 4.77 percent change. Brownsboro netted $8,122.54 this month; $7,574.84 was what the city received in March of last year. This is a 7.23 percent change. In 2008 the city received $29,287.71, compared to 2007's total of $27,216.56, a 7.60 percent change. Chandler reported a March allocation of $27,930.06 compared to last year's allocation of $25,966.65, a 7.56 percent growth. The city's sales tax allocation growth for 2008 from 2007 was a percent increase of 3.6, or $103,376.51 from $99,783.94. Murchison didn't perform quite as well in the March report, though its yearly allocation of 2008's $7,431.55 versus $5,443.58 marks a 36.51 percent yearly growth. Its monthly sales tax allocation report noted one of the two monthly negatives in Henderson County. Last year in March the city received $1,502.70, while this year in March it took in $1,437.25. Likewise, Poynor had nega- tive March growth but pronounced yearly growth. The city's 2008 total compared against its 2007 total was $11,267.37 to $9,100.34, a 23.81 percent increase. Its monthly growth percentage was negative 9.51, or $2,914.08 against this month's $2,636.83. Berryville, in March of 2008, has taken $821.57. Last year at this time the total was $755.81. This is an 8.7 percent increase. The yearly growth to date is nearly double that figure, at $2,844.63 and $2,471.59 and 15.09 percent. Finally, Coffee City's sales tax allocation rose 16.95 percent in March and landed at $15,790.21 against last year's $13,501.15. Last year's total to date was $49,303.02 against the new total of $$56,123.15, a 13.83 percent growth. The county's sales tax increases contributes to the overall state increases. Susan Combs, Texas Comptroller, said for the first half of fiscal 2008, sales tax collections for the state are up 7.1 percent. "Although growth is slower than the two previous fiscal years, increases in state sales tax revenues continue at a steady pace," Combs said. City Sales Tax Comparison Summary - March 08
