"Parsell just plain slammed the door shut to finish the game." Brownsboro head coach Joe Fleming said.

Senior Keaton Parsell struck out five batters in a two inning save last Thursday in Chapel Hill as the Bears rallied to win the District 14-3A match-up 7-5.

Chapel Hill took a 4-0 lead in the bottom of the third inning on three hits off Bears' starting pitcher Clint Cundieff.

Brownsboro rallied for three runs in the top of the fourth inning as Brad McDonald led off the inning with a hit to center.

Following a stolen base by McDonald, Parsell connected on a shot to left field. Parsell stole second, putting runners in scoring position for Bret Ralson. Ralson walked to load the bases.

Cundieff was hit by a pitch to score the Bears first run of the game. A pass ball allowed Parsell to score the Bears second run before Collin Wilson was hit by a pitch to bring in the final run of the inning.

Chapel Hill added to their lead in the bottom of the fourth on two hits scoring one run.

Trailing 5-3 a combination of hits by Parsell and Daniel Suggs led to the Bears tieing the game at five.

In the sixth inning the Bears took the lead on a double off the left field wall by McDonald.

"When I stepped to the plate I knew that I had to try my best to get the runs in. I looked at the scoreboard, the runners and just took a deep breath. I got a good pitch to hit, made good contact, and was fortunate enough to drive in the runs." McDonald said.

McDonald's hit proved to be the game winner as Parsell came in to pitch for the Bears.

The right handed senior faced seven batters in two innings. In the bottom of the sixth he struck out all three batters he faced.

To lead off the seventh and final inning Chapel Hill hit double of Parsell. A sacrifice bunt drove the runner to third with one out in the inning.

Facing the number six and seven hitters in the Bulldogs lineup Parsell struck both out to end the game.

"Clint Cundieff pitched very will. He kept us in the game by throwing strikes and competing extremely well." Fleming said.

Clint Cundeiff picked up the win for the Bears. He struck out five, walked four and threw 106 pitches in five innings.

"Clint pitched an outstanding game and held a good team to five runs." McDonald said. "It was a great overall team effort for us to pull off the win. The first win in district felt really good, and hopefully this momentum will carry on into the rest of district

Parsell (3), McDonald (2), Collin Wilson and Daniel Suggs all had hits for the Bears in the win.

Coach Fleming cited the defense as the main factor in the Bears' win.

"Our defense played very well which in looking at it was probably one of the big factors in our win." Fleming said.

With the win the Bears improved to 1-1 in District 14- 3A before Tuesday night's game in Brownsboro against Canton (7-7,1-1).

On Friday the Bears will host the Bullard Panthers (9- 6, 2-0). First pitch is scheduled for 6pm. Bullard defeated Van 5-2 on Friday.

Brownsboro opened district play last Wednesday night in Van with a 5-1 loss to the Vandals. The game was originally scheduled for Tuesday in Brownsboro. Due to bad weather on field conditions the game was moved to Van.

Brownsboro totaled four hits in the loss while holding the Vandals to three. Costly errors made the difference in the game. Brownsboro was charged with six errors, while Van had four.

Parsell suffered the loss for the Bears despite striking out 11 Vandals and allowing three hits.

The Bears only run of the game came on a single by Cundieff in the second inning. Suggs scored the run as he led off the inning with a double.
