Union Hill Baptist
by Mickie Bigbie

Do you use the talents God has given you and the blessings He has bestowed upon you to get His message out to everyone you meet? Do you use what He has given you, to glorify His name? Are you overwhelmingly thankful for what you have received or do you whine and complain because you don't have more. Do you regularly have a little "pity party" because you have not amassed as much as your neighbor or friend? Those are the questions I asked myself after Brother Bill's morning message on Sunday. When I got home and looked in the mirror, there she was ... a little "whiner" staring back at me, smug because she thinks she has a permanent place in my life. Well, she's being booted out this week and if she tries to return, she'll meet with the same fate. I don't know if Brother Bill's sermon hit home with others, but it sure did with me. Funny how that works, isn't it? Sometimes it's only with one barrel; Sunday it was a doublebarrel firing of God's word out to all of us sinners. That's why you don't ever want to miss an opportunity to be in God's house. You always find that something special in God's word that is directly aimed at you, you get the guidance and direction you've been praying for all week and you go away with a better understanding of God's great love for you. My goodness, it's there for the taking. How foolish we are not to take advantage of it.

Sunday evening, the Community Church service was held at Calvary Baptist Church with Brother Ernest Elliott, pastor of First United Methodist bringing the message. It wasn't bad enough to be in the process of taking a long, hard look at yourself after Brother Bill's message, come Sunday evening, after Brother Ernest's message, you felt the need to look for the "frogs" in your own life (whatever form in which you might find them).

Don't know what I'm talking about, then you either have not read the eighth chapter of Exodus or you missed a great message at the Community service! It's so nice to get together with folks from the area churches, and this fifth Sunday was especially fun. With all kinds of talent from each church, we were blessed by everything from a rousing trumpet solo to a funny and inspiring puppet show, not to mention all the great songs. Then Brother Ernest delivered his super message. We're going to miss Brother Ernest and his wife, Glenda. They'll be leaving Brownsboro after his retirement the end of May and it will be a tremendous loss to the folks in our community, but we wish them well. Following the evening service, the good cooks at Calvary fed us. Ummmmmm, good!

We urge you to make every effort to attend, each opportunity you have, to participate in your church activities. Christians are not stuffy, serious folks. We have great fun and memorable fellowship because we are happy and we know what awaits us!

Thursday evening at 7:00 p.m. you are invited to attend Senior Moments at Union Hill. Bring your snacks and come join in the fun.

Sunday, April 13th will be High Attendance Sunday. Make plans to be there and bring family and friends. Hope we have to drag out the folding chairs again.

Did you pick up your canister for collections of donations to "Changing Lives at the Baptist Children's Home"? If you didn't get one, pick it up next Sunday. Don't let it rattle; use that folding stuff!

Our thanks to the visitors who chose Union Hill as their place of worship on Sunday. We invite you to come again. You've been given great food for thought this week. We urge you to stay in prayer as you re-examine yourself. As the old song says, "Prayer Changes Everything." See you on the hill.
