St. Boniface Catholic On the Second Sunday of Easter or Divine Mercy Sunday, members of St. Boniface welcomed Deacon Ruben Natera. In his homily, Deacon Natera spoke of the love that his own young grandson expressed for him by stretching his little arms out `this much.' Deacon Natera began to think about that gesture in relation to Jesus stretching out his arms on the cross in love for us. The summary of our Catholic Christian experience is in the Resurrection. In the readings we heard of a group of men gathered with doors locked - fearful and asking "what next?" Everything was calm when Jesus appeared and greeted them. "Peace be with you" is more than just a greeting ... it is invoking a promise of everlasting peace as promised by Jesus at the Last Supper. The mission of Jesus Christ was passed onto the disciples who passed it on to those who followed throughout the generations. Our mission is to proclaim the word of Christ, announce our belief and draw others to share in the love of Christ. Deacon Natera went on to share his thoughts on Thomas' role. He was a good man, an apostle, human, weak and skeptical; he reflects reality. In the profession of our faith, the Creed, we indeed believe Jesus Christ is present in the Word and in the Eucharist. We believe in Him even though we have not seen Him. We are called upon to embrace the mercy of the Lord ... to extend our arms to accept the love of the Lord. Following the announcements, Iris Mamo, DRE spoke of the origination of Divine Mercy Sunday. Saint Maria Faustina, who was canonized in 2000 by the merciful Pope John Paul II, shared with the world a powerful prayer that the Lord wanted everyone to say - The Divine Mercy Chaplet. The CCD children were to meet after refreshments to learn this special prayer. Iris invited parishioners to join the young people. Refreshments were served following Mass and members and visitors enjoyed fellowship. You are invited to an experience of Charismatic Prayer on Monday, April 7th at 7 pm in St. Paul's Chapel (behind the Chancellery). For more information please contact Fr. Eduardo at 903-534-1077, ext. 171. On Sunday, April 13th there will be a Fish Fry at the KC Hall from 11-2. Please make plans to attend this event. Congratulations and best wishes to all who are celebrating birthdays and anniversaries. We pray for healing of the sick and suffering. We remember the souls of the faithful departed; may they rest in peace. We continue to pray for the men and women serving our nation, protecting our freedom and keeping us from harm. Have a great week! |
