Women's conference set for Saturday, April 26 Rock Hill Baptist Church of Brownsboro will host a women's conference, "Faith through the Generations ", on Saturday, April 26. The topic of the conference is faith, and the day's events will include breakfast and lunch. Sherry Parker, former president of the church's Women for Christ Ministries group, said though registration is April 12, walk-ins may be accepted on conference day. "We would prefer people register so we know how much food to bring, but we will accept walk-ins," Parker said. The conference period is from 8 am to 3 pm. Breakfast and lunch will be provided, and the whole day is free. "This is open to women of all denominations because the conference is all about faith," Parker said. "But I won't bar a man who really wants to come from coming," she added. The faith conference will be the first conference Rock Hill Baptist Church has had in the building, Parker said. While this means it is difficult to estimate how many will attend, Parker said the church sanctuary can seat up to 400. The sanctuary, built five years ago, is where the conference will take place. Stephanie Ballard, current president of the Women for Christ Ministries group, said the idea for a conference came because she thought there was a need for a conference of this sort in the Brownsboro area. "We've been planning this since December," Ballard said. While Ballard echoed Parker's thoughts in that attendance is difficult to predict in advance, Ballard did say the target mark is over 200. "Faith is very important in people's lives," Ballard said. "Sometimes ladies need to get a boost and get going in the right direction." There will be three speakers at the conference: Patricia Mallory, Janet Berry and Sandra Weakley. Mallory is an author who has written several books. She attends First Baptist Church in Tyler. Berry is a coach at Brownsboro Elementary School. Sandra Weakley is a member of Marvin United Methodist Church in Tyler, and has attended for 45 years. Youth counselor and Bible school teacher are just two of her jobs. Registration forms, available from the church on CR 3405, can either be mailed to the church or dropped off at the office. Mailing information is on the registration form. |
