The doctor is in
By Tom Cherry

Over the past eight years, I have had the privilege of living in Chandler. Throughout this time I have been interested in doing a few other things relating to medicine other than just seeing patients in my clinic. One of these things was writing a newspaper column. I've been a little busy and just did not carve out the time to do this. Luckily, I have a partner starting this month which should help out with the busyness of medical practice. Doctor Tariq Vora and I both believe that writing this newspaper column will be an interesting endeavor for us. We are both looking forward to writing this. Hopefully, you will find it interesting as well.

We envision this column as a question and answer format. This would be similar to the "Dear Dr. Donohue" column in the Tyler Morning Telegraph. You are probably all familiar with this column. In this column, readers write in questions and Dr. Donohue picks out two or three that he thinks many in his audience will find interesting.

On March 26, for example, he answered questions about melanoma as well as end of life decision making. The questions can be anything relating to medicine. As family physicians, we have studied many different aspects of medicine. We should be able to give a medically relevant answer, and if we do not know the answer, we can certainly find out. With any luck, and a lot of good editing, we will be able to do so in an entertaining way.

Doctor Vora and I will take turns answering questions. We've also contacted Doctor Sam Raborn and Doctor Orlando DeHerrera, and they are considering joining us in writing this column. One of the two (or four) of us will answer questions provided by you, the readers, each week.

There are three ways to send in questions. You can email to statesman@embarqmail.com. You may also mail to either The Statesman, Attn. Medical Questions, P.O. Box 168, Brownsboro, TX 75756, or to Tom Cherry, M.D., Attn. Medical Questions, P.O. Box 373, Chandler, TX 75758. We look forward to hearing your questions and responding.
