Bears pound Canton, fall to Bullard

Brownsboro played two games at home last week as they defeated Canton 11-1 on Tuesday before falling to Bullard 12-1 on Friday.
By splitting District 14-3A action the Bears were tied for third place entering Tuesday nights game in Athens.
Ryan Epperson returned to the Bears' starting lineup on Tuesday after recovering from knee surgery. The senior will rotate pitching and first base duties with Keaton Parsell.
Against Canton the Bears scored a season high 11 runs on nine hits. Brownsboro scored runs in the first, second, fourth and fifth innings. Canton's lone run came in the second inning.
Parsell picked up the win for the Bears as he allowed two hits and struck out six batters. The only run allowed reached base on an error.
At the plate Ryan Smith was perfect as he reached base in all four plate appearances. Smith singled twice, doubled and walked. He scored each time he reached bases and drove in one run.
Brad McDonald and Daniel Suggs each had two hits and 3 runs batted in. Bret Ralson drew three walks.
On Friday the Bears allowed eight runs to score in the third inning as they fell to Bullard.
Bullard remained perfect in District 14-3A through the first four games. Overall the Panthers are 11-6.
Three Bears managed hits against Bullard pitcher Jacob Whatley. Brett Tidwell, Ralson and Austin Adair record the Bears hits.
Parsell scored the Bears only run of the game as he reached base on a walk in the second inning. Three batters later Ralson drove Parsell in with a hit to right field.
With the game
tied at one entering the third inning the Panther bats came alive. Bullard had 8 hits in the inning, five in a row.
Despite the lopsided score Brownsboro coach Joe Fleming said Clint Cundieff pitched a good game and competed throughout.
Cundieff suffered his first loss in district play allowing 14 hits while striking out three Panthers.
Friday the district will have a bye before entering the second half of play on Tuesday, April 8.
The Bears will open the second half of district at home with Chapel Hill on Tuesday at 6p.m. As of press time Monday it was undetermined who would start the game.
With the return of Epperson the Bears will start two seniors on the mound. Cundieff will remain on the varsity and be used in relief of both pitchers.
Brownsboro is 6-10 on the season and 2-2 in district.
