Last week began on the wrong foot for the Brownsboro Bearette softball team as the game scheduled on Tuesday against Canton had to be rescheduled.
The game was rescheduled to Wednesday due to the fact that only one umpire showed up to the Tuesday night game.
Playing on Wednesday the Bearettes fell to Canton 4-1.
Ashley Costlow drove in Lindsey Wood for the Bearettes only run of the game. Wood doubled to reach base before scoring.
Danielle Bynum and Randi Smith also had hits in the game for Brownsboro.
Krystin Groothuis pitched all seven innings allowing four hits, four walks and struck out four batters.
On Friday the Bearettes faced district leading (5-0) Bullard and fell to the Lady Panthers 14-1.
Brownsboro's only run of the game was scored on a bunt by Lacey Pettit. Pettit laid down a bunt towards third base and the throw to first was wild.
Using her speed Pettit raced around the bases before the Lady Panthers gained control of the over throw.
Early in the contest pitcher Krystin Groothuis was hit on the hand on a line drive up the middle. Randi Smith replaced Groothuis on the mound for two innings.
"The girls have struggled in district, but their attitude has been amazing. They continue to get better and I expect to play spoiler in the second half." Brownsboro head coach James Croley said.
Brownsboro was scheduled to begin the second half of play on Tuesday night in Athens. The Bearettes will have a bye on Friday.
On the season the Bearettes are 7-13 and 0-5 in district. Van and Athens (3-2) were tied for second place in district as of Monday.
