FCCLA to send six to state competition
The FCCLA convention will have 5,000 FCCLA students from all over Texas compete for the lofty prize of entrance to the national convention. The state competition is in Galveston. To finance the club in endeavors such as this, the FCCLA Booster Club will host its first Springtime Yard Sale. Maurica Giles, FCCLA teacher, said the yard sale will serve as a fundraiser for the group. "Brownsboro doesn't want kids going door to door to make money," Giles said, "so we've been brainstorming." Funds for the group are important to its continuing effective operation, especially if one of the six students going to state is qualified for the national competition in Orlando in July. If this is the case, a plane will need to be taken to the competition. The yard sale is intended to be like a community flea market. It will take place on May 3 at 7 am. Any group or individual may call 903- 852-6398 to rent space for the sale. The sale will be at the student parking lot for Brownsboro High School. The charge to rent booth or sale space is $15 for every two parking spots. The parking lines will be used as space determinates. If a buyer purchases more than two spots, a discount may be offered. Items may be donated to the yard sale. "I'm hoping we make a lot of money on this," Giles said. The six students going to state are Caroline Griffin, Naomi Scott, Janelle Benton, Stefani Vause, Christina Staples and Brandi Budro. Between the six club members, three projects will be presented. Three students, Scott, Vause and Budro, will present the club's Chapter Service Project Display. The second category of project is "Job Interview". Benton and Griffin make up the club's interview team. The final project will be presented by Christina Staples, who will present a "Focus on the Children" project, which is in the shape of a Dr. Seuss hat. The group left for Galveston Wednesday, April 2. |
