Lake Palestine U.M.C.
by Barbara Cade

With Easter now well behind us, it is time to get back to ministry as usual, and that means a lot of work, but a lot of fun too.

It's good to know that the quilting group is meeting again. They haven't been together much for awhile, and they still have a Christmas quilt that they are trying to finish. They did go to San Pedro's for lunch one day after they finished their morning quilting.

Benni Brown has not been feeling well lately, but we hear she is doing better now after having seen the doctor.

Herb Botts had a little scare last Sunday. He got some new medicine from the doctor and found out he was allergic to it. Last Sunday was a little rough for him, but he's back to normal now.

We are happy to have Gail Johnston leading the singing for us at the 8:30 AM service on Sunday. She is a very talented singer.

Bobbie Mathus has reminded everyone that we all need to get back to buying items for our boxes which we send to Iraq. Those who haven't done this before should contact her or the church for a complete list of items to send.

Also, Mary Ann and Dale Whisenhunt want to encourage everyone to buy an Angel Food box. We need to support this ministry which really does help those struggling to make ends meet. She also has announced that at the Chuck Wagon Gang concert in June, the Angel Food ministry will be selling barbecued brisket plates. That sounds great.

The UMW is having their annual panty and socks drive. Those wishing to contribute these items should see the box in the back of the church.

Rev. Prather has started a new Sunday night Bible study for a few weeks only. It's on the five signs of a successful church. The study meets at 5:30 PM at the church.

There has also been interest in another Bible study being started. Initially, it was going to be at 7:00 PM on Thursdays, but now the interest seems to be to have it during the day. If anyone is interested in this, please let Rev. Prather know. The topic is Jesus in the Gospel.

Also, Jan Decker has put out a call for everyone to contribute as many knit or crocheted baby hats as possible. They are for the team from Chandler First UMC to take on their mission trip to Kenya this summer. The recipients of the hats will be AIDS babies.

Now that we have a new amphitheater, and now that the electricity is about to be installed down there, and now that we have a concert booked down there, Lillian Stegall and the amphitheater committee are having a naming contest.

If you have a suggestion for a name for this amphitheater, there is a box near the front entrance where you can place it.

We were glad to see Sue Johnson in church on Sunday, but we will miss seeing Charles with her. His funeral was on Saturday at the church.

We will also miss Ken Cade's mother, Rose Cade. She died Saturday at Mother Frances Hospital after a long illness. Her funeral was yesterday at Chandler First United Methodist Church.

It was great seeing Roy Different out of his neck brace. He should feel a lot better too. Along with that, Martha was looking especially good on Sunday herself.

We want to wish Rebecca Prather a Happy Belated birthday. It was last Saturday. Other birthdays this week are Josh Martin, Vern Jackson, Debbie Miller, Andrea Skipper and Andy Anderson.
