Friends and Flowers Garden Club holds monthly meeting On April 2nd, members of the "Friends and Flowers" Garden Club spent their gettogether at Blue Moon Gardens in Edom, Texas. Activity planners Wanda McCreary and Jean Dean planned a really fun day for the ladies, starting with a very tasty lunch they prepared which consisted of shrimp salad, chicken salad, pasta salad, iced tea and lemon cake served with lemon curd. Special guests for lunch were Mary Wilhite and Sharon Smith, owners of Blue Moon Gardens. For lunch favors, each club member received an herb plant which was planted in small embellished tin flower buckets. Mary Wilhite (co-owner of Blue Moon) held a very informative seminar on planting, caring for, and cooking with herbs. The ladies were given copies of recipes with herb ingredients. Mary also gave a demonstration on how to plant herbs in pots. While demonstrating, she filled enough pots so that each member would have one to take home. With the seminar over, it was time to shop, and shop they did. The "gardeners" started filling Blue Moon's little red wagons with special plants to purchase while looking forward to getting home and digging in the dirt. Those present at the luncheon and seminar were Carol Blakely, Lou Gossett, Martha Hardwick, Doris Langston, Pat McBride, Linda Owen, Jannie Parker, Rosemary Parmley, Bobbie Sparks, Sara Taylor, Anna Mae Williams, Mary Williams, Murlene Wommack, and planners Wanda McCreary and Jean Dean. April Garden Tip: For a longer herb harvest, plant the same varieties at 2-week intervals. This also works for lettuce, spinach and radishes. |
