Lady Hornets top Bearettes 4-0 Athens defeated Brownsboro 4-0 last Tuesday night in Athens to start the second half of District 14-3A play. Brownsboro dropped to 0-6 in district and has been outscored in district play 65-7. Chelsea Holcomb was 1-3 with a double against Athens. Randi Smith and Krystin Groothuis also had hits for the Bearettes. Carley Smith reached base twice on walks. In the pitcher's circle for the Bearettes was Krystin Groothuis. She pitched six innings allowing eight hits, seven walks and four earned runs. She struck out two batters. On the season the Bearettes are batting .299 with 78 runs scored and 148 hits. Tied for the team lead in batting average is Randi Smith and Groothuis. Both are batting .400 with 24 hits each. Danielle Bynum is batting .333 and Chelsea Holcomb is batting .310. The Smith sisters, Randi and Carley, are tied for the team lead in runs with twelve. Carley leads the team in walks with 12. Brownsboro, 7-14, has three games left this season following Tuesday's game against Chapel Hill. The team will end the season with back to back road games. Bullard is leading the district with a 6-0 record while Van and Athens are tied for second at 4-2. Canton is 3-3 and Chapel Hill was 2-4 heading into Tuesday night's games. |
