BHS has a good week at Livestock Show

Brownsboro High School had a good week overall at the annual Henderson County Livestock Show.

Derek Sims, agriculture teacher at BHS, said there were quite a few first year students.

"It was a good learning experience for some of the kids," Sims said.

Sims added he couldn't compare this year's performance with last year's.

"We go from a year to year basis," Sims said.

BHS had 75 agriculture students participate in the event, and many placed in the top six of the event entered.

In the breeding beef heifers bracket BHS had 10 students place high in the show.

- Bryce Williams, 1st Reserve Breed Champion.

- Peyton Williams, 2nd Polled Hereford Heifer

- Brandon Irby, 8th Shorthorn Heifer

- Cody Smith, 6th Angus Heifer

- Andrew Dyer, 1st Simmen- tal Heifer and 6th Simmental Heifer

- A.J. Bell, 2nd Santa Gertrudis Heifer

- Lecandace Bell, 1st and Reserve Breed Champion

- Lucas Lemons, 4th and 6th Bradford Heifer

- Johnny Oden, 1st and Champion Non Registered Heifer

- Glenn Devlin, 3rd Santa Gertrudis

In addition, three students placed in the market steers showing.

- Tracy Sims, 5th Med Wt - Johnny Oden, 1st Lt Hvy

- Lucas Lemons, 3rd Hvy Wt

In the market swine showing, around 14 students placed.

- Johnny Oden, Reserve Champion York

- Victoria Davilla, 1st Med Wt York

- Doug Pate, 1st and 2nd Lt Wt Hamp

- Rusty Lawrence, 2nd and 6th Med Wt Cross

- Colton Beall, 4th Hvy Duroc

- Chase Beam, 7th Hvy Duroc and Cross

- Chance Parks, 7th Lt Wt Hamp and 13th Med Wt Cross

- Cody Smith, 8th Med Wt Hamp

- Jessica Dingler, 8th Med Wt Cross

- Lucas Lemons, 11th Hvy Wt Cross

In the broiler category six students placed.

Several blue ribbons were handed out in the Youth Project Show.

- Matt Lough, blue ribbon in Best of Show and another blue ribbon

- Ryan Edwards/Taylor Rushing, blue ribbon

- Doug Pate/Brett Stewart, blue ribbon

- Kayla Mills, blue ribbon

- Payton Mills, blue ribbon

- Maleri McHam, blue ribbon in Best of Show

- Kelsey Masters, blue ribbon

Two students received ribbons for breeding poultry.

- Maleri McHam, blue ribbon and Reserve Grand Champion hen

- Garrett Herrington, blue ribbon

Likewise, two students placed for breeding rabbits.

- Kimberly Cundieff, 2nd

- Emily Bartmess, 6th

Several students placed because of their shop projects.

- Matt Smith, Zack Herrin and Adam McLean, 4th, 20 ft lowboy trailer

- James Gray, Grand Cham- pion Shop Project, hydraulic hay unroller

- Caleb Loggins and Jimbo Duncan, 2nd, rear bumper

- Chris Holcomb, 3rd, set of hay forks

In the market lambs category, Jeff Smiley received 6th and 7th.

Kimberly Cundieff, Emily Bynum, Rusty Lawrence and Chase Beam all received $500 scholarships.
