Lake Palestine U.M.C.
by Barbara Cade

We want to congratulate Brandy Blakeney and Joey Stringer on their wedding last Saturday night at the church. The church was decorated beautifully, and a large crowd turned out to wish the couple well. The officiant was Bob Fisher while Matthew Price walked her down the aisle and gave her away. Brandy is the daughter of Teena Blakeney. The couple met through friends and their work with the Westside Volunteer Fire Department. They are currently living in Parkside Shores.

Leann Boggs got good news last week. She is no longer in the hospital but is now in rehabilitation at Health South in Tyler.

Larry Rogers is still in the hospital as of this writing. We hope he gets out soon.

Everett Kuykendall is still in the Chandler Nursing home. We hear that Jane has been sick with the flu lately.

We were also shocked to hear that Crystal Simon's father has had a stroke. The doctors told him that it will severely curtail his truck driving.

As of this writing, Ann Blackmon is anxiously awaiting the birth of her daughter Rebecca's baby. Ann is ready with gas in the car to get to the hospital as fast as she can when word comes that the baby is on its way.

Dorothy, Cindy and Brittney Newsom were all together at church on Sunday. Brittney was home from her work at East Texas Baptist University for the weekend. We're sure she was also visiting her grandfather, Dan, who is ill at home.

Bernard and Linda Massey were in Ft. Worth last weekend to be with a friend who was undergoing medical treatment.

The Bible study on Sunday night was treated to strawberry shortcake with real whipped cream. Ken Cade made the strawberries and Bobbie Mathis and Dorothy Botts were in charge of the cake and pastries.

Bernard Massey called together a group of men to meet at 8:30 a.m. on Tuesday at the church to work on the landscaping at the amphitheater. The first event with the Chuck Wagon Gang is coming up pretty quickly.

The Angel Food delivery will be this Saturday from 10-11 a.m. at the church.

Tonight, Thursday, there will be a Young Family Ministry meeting at the church to discuss outreach to those in the area with young children and youth. Word has it that Rev. Prather may be providing some food.

Finally, don't forget to put May 10th (Saturday) on your calendars. That's the big garage sale put on by the Methodist Men. It will start at 6:30 a.m., and there's always some great stuff for sale there. Perfect for Mother's Day on the 11th.
