Chandler F.U.M.C. Sermon, April 27th "Weighing the Consequences: Is Sin Worth the Trade?" Scripture: Luke 12:16-21 and Matthew 16:24-27 There is a Yiddish proverb that says "What soap is to the body, laughter is to the soul." That says so much on how truly beneficial laughter is to the body. University studies of the ability to laugh at stressful situation helps mitigate the damaging physical effects, by lowering of the blood pressure, increasing blood supply to the brain, even strengthening of arterial walls. Even making yourself laugh when you may not feel like it, has a beneficial effect. Try it sometimes. When alone, just think of something in your past, or pick up the Readers' Digest. Laughter does so much more, it gives us a non-drug induced, glorious high! Joy and happiness are a gift from God, to be enjoyed by all Christians. Share some laughter with somesonville. one today. The Youth Choir blessed the Sunday services with "Shout Amen," "Rock-a My Soul," and the beautiful "Softly and Tenderly. " What a talented group. The young people are Zane Griffin, Taylor Johnston, Macy Pollard, Marla Pollard, Allison Reid, Preston Reid, and Ryan Reid. The Youth's 30-hour Famine Mission raised $2,340! These funds will go directly to World Vision to help provide food for the hungry throughout the world. The Youth of our congregation under the guidance of Marla Frederick make us all proud. Next Sunday, April 27th, will be a busy day. Following the 11:00 a.m. service, the 14 young people who completed the Confirmation Class will host a baked potato luncheon to raise funds for God's Open Hands. At 12 p.m. we will meet in the Sanctuary for their Confirmation Service. Then at 6 p.m. the Children and Youth will have a Music Festival with both the childrens' and youth choirs, along with the Joy Jinglers and Youth Bell Choir. "This is the day which the Lord hath made; we will rejoice and be glad in it!" -Psalms 118-24 The Church's Bible studies are wrapping up for the summer. The schedule is beginning to fill up with some wonderful opportunities to share in God's presence. If you would like to help with Vacation Bible School, to be held August 10-15th, please contact Polly at the church office. Carol Munch is organizing a "Women's Summer Christian Book Club." Those who are interested should fill out the registration form that was in the Sunday bulletin, or call the church office. The first book is 90 Minutes in Heaven: A True Story of Death & Life, by Don Piper and Cecil Murphey. A copy of this book can be found at the Chandler Public Library.
