St. Boniface Catholic On the Fifth Sunday of Easter Deacon Steve Curry posed the question, "Are you tired of the Alleluias and the Glories?" We are an `Easter people' all year long! In today's readings, Deacon Steve pointed out the institution of the deconate. The first deacons were selected as a need arose to address an injustice. Then the need for proclaiming the gospel and conferring the sacraments arose and the deacons of the early church stepped up. There is no room for lazy people in the Kingdom of God! There is always a call to do more. If we recall the parable of the talents we understand to use our abilities to serve and praise God. We are urged to see everyone equally as sons and daughters of God. We are urged to use our talents - when we see a need, respond, even though it may not be where you want to be. Deacon Steve urged us to search our hearts to find the `right' ministry for us, be it prayer (a most powerful ministry!) or music or religious education, etc. Even as we age and grow weary with eyesight failing and faculties waning, our life experiences and our faith can be valuable inspiration to those growing in their own faith. How can we expect a peace in Heaven if we don't take our place in the here and now? Members welcomed Fr. Jesse back from his trip to Mexico. He was truly missed. Following Mass, refreshments were served in the community room. Preparations are underway for the upcoming Confirmation of 11 of our young people. Bishop Alvaro Corrada will bestow the Sacrament on Wednesday evening. God bless these young men and women of faith. The Altar Servers are doing an amazing job. In recent weeks their numbers have nearly tripled! Keep up the good work and God bless you all, especially the DeLaGarzas for the wonderful work they do with the servers! Volunteers are still needed to plan for the upcoming celebration of our Patron Saint, St. Boniface in early June. A special Mass will be offered at 10:00am on June 8th with a parish picnic to follow. There is a sign-up sheet in the community room (on the bulletin board). Our deepest sympathies are extended to the family of Hazel Carrier. Hazel was a founding member of St. Boniface and will be missed. May her soul and the souls of all the faithful rest in peace. Congratulations and best wishes to all who are celebrating birthdays and anniversaries. We pray for relief and comfort for those who are sick and suffering. We continue to pray for the men and women of the armed services; may God watch over them and keep them from harm until they return home to us. |
