Letters To The Editor Citizens of Chandler: It is amazing how short people's memory can be. I moved to Chandler almost twelve years ago. Because of contractor problems with my house (no city inspections of construction), I started attending City Council meetings. I found small town politics in a fast growing Chandler. I hardly ever missed a council meeting, and with other concerned individuals did everything I could to get Chandler politics operating according to Texas Law, even running for City Council. When I lost my wife to cancer, I stopped attending meetings regularly, only attending when I was concerned with politics going backward. My life is again blessed with a terrific lady, and I couldn't believe how well our City Council was performing. Then, I couldn't believe what I was reading in the Letters to the Editor. I thought I would have to write a letter, reminding everyone of how much good has happened here in Chandler the last couple of years. Then Janiece Lunsford stole my thunder in last week's paper. She nailed it perfectly, except for not mentioning the one thing that got me involved; we now have building inspections done by a City Inspector. That would have saved me much grief and dollars when I came to town. The fact is, we now have everything we fought for all those years, and much more. And YES there is a reason for this success. The people that built all the new houses in Chandler, brought new blood to town. Too many people wanted the City run properly. There is one man that I give much credit for our success. Gene Giger knows the law, and what is right for Chandler's citizens over all, not what is right for those few self-interested, short-sighted individuals. He is honest, ethical and moral, and demands that in all he is connected with. Gene is a very hands-on councilman and along with Jim Moffeit, City Administrator, gives the citizens of Chandler continuous effort on our behalf. Those late comers who can't see this, are either ignorant, or are puppets of some who will not be happy, even after winning all we fought for. I think the apology in last week's paper shows one, at least, honest enough to admit that one of my old friends was using him. Please vote for Gene Giger; don't let us go back to a City run by the few. I am also going to support Ann Hall, which is a change on my part, because I think she has been a good input to all the good things happening lately. So far I cannot vote, in good conscience, for anyone else on the ballot. Please VOTE, don't be complacent, thinking that surely those that did us so much good will surely win. You have to take hold of your responsibility, as a good citizen, and VOTE!
