Xtreme fall to Wolves
Local team to play in Brownsboro Saturday night

The Athens based Texas Xtreme semi-professional football team traveled to Arp, Texas, Saturday night and were defeated by the East Texas Wolves by a score of 12-0. Xtreme owners and coaches Gary Craig and Larry Anding were pleased with the team's performance as only 16 players were in uniform and 8 starters from last week's game were unavailable.

Most every Xtreme player played offensively and defensively and many played the entire game offensively and defensively.

Offensive coordinator and quarterback/running back Brandon Thompson was sidelined after being injured in last week's game and missed his first start in his 7-year semi pro career.

Quarterback Ahmed Brown was also unavailable. After missing 5 games due to any injury, Brown took over at quarterback last week after Thompson was injured.

Cory Davis assumed the quarterback position in Saturday's game but did not fare well as he was unfamiliar with the offensive plays. Although being on the roster for many weeks, two Xtreme players played in their first game of the season and played extensively on offense and defense. Six interceptions, untimely penalties, and dropped passes foiled scoring opportunities for the Xtreme offense.

Defensive starters Brandon Lyons and Amos Berryman were key rushing performers and Lyons also played quarterback extensively in the fourth quarter. Berryman also made his first appearance at punter. Offensive standouts were Eric Williams, Chris Ross, Jerry Martin, Mike Spencer, Ben Swain, Flem Kindle, and Noah Guinn.

With only one linebacker available the Xtreme defense was forced to play a 5-2 formation the entire game. Fullback Noah Guinn also played the entire game at linebacker.

Coach Craig was pleased as the Wolves started six possessions in Xtreme territory and were stopped five times. The Wolves scored their first touchdown on their third possession and to a 6-0 lead and the PAT was blocked. The Wolves scored their second touchdown just before halftime on a short drive and the 2-point conversion failed.

Cornerback Montez Wade returned after missing last week's game but was sidelined in the second quarter after an ankle injury.

Defensive standouts were Allen Beasley with one fumble recovery and three sacks, Kerry Yarbrough one fumble recovery and four sacks, Brandon Lyons one sack, Marvin Lyons one sack, Jimmy Roberts four tackles and three passes defended, Flem Kindle, Jerry Martin, and Amos Berryman.

Brandon Lyons and Berryman left the game at times with injuries but returned to action. Craig and Anding were overwhelmed as many of Xtreme players played through injuries and fatigue.

The Xtreme will host the Port City Jaguars Saturday, May 3 at Brownsboro High School stadium. Kickoff time is scheduled for 7:00.
