Lake Palestine U.M.C.
by Barbara Cade

Congratulations are due Joyce Martin and all the GED volunteers at the church. They have their first graduate. Everyone is very excited about it and they hope to attend the graduation ceremony which is coming up soon.

Speaking of graduation, Andrea Skipper was happy to announce that after she graduates from John Tyler High School, she will be moving to Mississippi where she has been accepted at Mississippi State.

Susie Owen is also taking part in some graduation exercises this Saturday. She will be attending her great-niece's commencement from A&M in College Station.

We were sorry to hear that Mary Ann Whisenhunt's mother who lives in Oklahoma had a stroke. As of this writing, she is doing all right, but Mary Ann is very concerned about her.

Condolences are due Bob and Carla Fisher on the death of Carla's sister-in-law. Her funeral was last Saturday.

The men of the church need to be congratulated. They have successfully put up the carport outside of the youth building. That's a project they have wanted to get out of the way for awhile.

We hear Bill Martin may be making a trip to the doctor's office this week. We hope it helps him feel better.

Roy and Martha Different are up in Minnesota as of this writing, where Martha has been seeing doctors at the Mayo Clinic. They should be back sometime this week.

Donna Franko is traveling in Florida with her neighbor, Martha Hemphill. They both have relatives and vacation homes there, so they should be having a lot of fun.

The group that traveled to South Padre Island is now back. Spending about a week on the beach were Linda and Bernard Massey, Ken Cade, and Dorothy and Herb Botts. They enjoyed relaxing and some of them even did a little fishing when the wind wasn't blowing too hard.

The young couples of the church have been meeting on Thursday nights and have come up with some great ideas for fun, food and fellowship this summer for the whole family. The first event they have planned will be Kite Day on May 17th. Weather permitting, it will begin around 10 AM. There will be refreshments available and also door prizes. The best part of the day though will be flying those kites.

Of course, before that, the big event of the month will be the Methodist Men's Garage Sale. It will start this Saturday, May 10th, at around 6:30 AM. There will be all sorts of great items for sale, so come on out and see what's available. You just might find something for mother for Mother's Day.

Also, because of Mother's Day this Sunday, the usual second Sunday after-church dinner has been moved to next week and it will be followed by an Administrative Council meeting.
