Chamber announces annual golf tournament
By Chad Wilson Editor

Dust off the golf clubs setting in the back of the closet as it is time for the Chandler-Brownsboro Area Chamber of Commerce's sixth annual golf tournament.

The tournament will be held at Echo Creek Country Club located on FM-317 in Leagueville on Saturday, June 21.

Proceeds from the tournament will go toward scholarships for Brownsboro High School seniors. Last year CBACC was able to award two $500 scholarships.

Scholarship deadline for this year is Wednesday, May 14 at the end of school. High school seniors can pick up a scholarship application from Mrs. Debenport or the office.

"Any senior is eligible for the scholar- ship. Some of the things we consider when looking at an applicant are their community service, grade point average and what career path they have chosen," CBACC advisor Jeff Smiley said.

This year the chamber will award scholarships of $1,000 to two students. The scholarships will be handed out at the Senior Awards on Friday, May 23 at 9am.

Depending on the outcome of this year's tournament the chamber hopes to be able to award more scholarships next year.

Smiley said the goal this year is to have 24 hole sponsorships and ten or more area businesses to sponsor prizes. He also said he hopes to have 12, four man teams compete in the event.

As the tournament has grown each year this year looks to be no exception.

The tournament will begin at 1pm with a shotgun start. Prior to the start there will be a grilled chicken lunch served at 11:30am. Lunch is provided as part of the tournament entry fee.

Prizes will be awarded to first, second and third place finishers as well as the one closest to the hole and the one with the longest drive.

The First place team will win $200 and a plaque while second place wins $100 and a plaque. Third place will win golf merchandise and a plaque.

A Hybrid driver will be awarded to the one with the longest drive and whoever is closest to the hole will win $50 cash.

It costs $50 per person to enter the tournament or $200 per team with a $5 mulligan. No more than four mulligans will be allowed.

Teams may register using the form located below or by contacting Jeff Smiley 903- 570-5687 or the Chamber Office at 903-849-5930.

Hole sponsorships are $100 and include a sign placed on the tee box of each hole sponsored. Last year there were 20 hole sponsors and nine area businesses that donated prizes.

Special recognition will be given to businesses who sponsor hole and prizes throughout the tournament.

For more information on sponsorship call Smiley, the chamber office or Elton Caldwell 903-681-4930. Sponsorship forms may be picked up at Smiley Insurance in Brownsboro or in Chandler at the CBACC office. CBACC office hours are 9am to 1pm, Monday through Friday.
