Masonic Lodge to hold second annual car rally

It's almost time for the second annual Rally on the Square, where as many as 125 vintage restored automobiles will be showcased at downtown Frankston.

The rally will open at 9 am Saturday, May 17, and run till 3 pm.

Charles Garner, master of the Masonic Lodge of Frankston, said winners in each of the 20 divisions and the "best of show" award will be judged by entrants who know and have themselves restored antique cars.

In addition to four special awards and the first place trophies for each division, other awards are the Sheriff's Tro- phy, the Mayor's Trophy and the Bobby Stephens Memorial Trophy.

The Sheriff's Trophy will be given out by Anderson County Sheriff Greg Taylor, the Mayor's Trophy by Frankston Mayor James Gouger, and the family of Bobby Stephens will present the memorial trophy along with a $100 cash prize.

Stephens was a long-time Frankston resident who restored automobiles and helped many in the Frankston area do the same.

Vehicle registration for the rally is $24. Entry forms can be obtained at the Masonic Lodge at 300 N. Commerce in Frankston, or by contacting crjm_garner@netscape.com.

During the first rally in 2007, up to 75 vehicles and hundreds of spectators gathered in the Frankston square to examine the cars.

Garner said the lodge moved the show date away from the First Monday event in Canton to increase participation.

Garner also said there will be concessions and food on the square, as well as a disc jockey. The DJ will be area resident Ray Parton; he will play `50s and `60s music.

Spectators at the event will be given a ballot for the People's Choice Award.
