Former Bearettes shine Several Bearette softball players have taken their game to the college level over the past few years. Current UT Tyler pitcher and first baseman Loren Parks, a 2006 Brownsboro graduate, is currently preparing for the NCAA Championship tournament. Her team, the Patriots, finished the season with a 40-7 record and will open tournament play Thursday in Tyler. Parks had an 8-0 record entering last weekends tournament and an ERA of 1.55. The Patriots claimed second place in the American Southwest Tournament played last weekend in Irving. Graduating from BHS in 2004 Megan McGill continued her softball career at Lon Morris before heading to Southwestern Oklahoma State University. McGill batted .287 this season as a senior and was among the team leaders in hits, walks, stolen bases and fielding. She led the team in sacrifices. Her sister Morgan McGill graduated Brownsboro last year, 2007, and took the field for Lon Morris this season. The freshman batted .317 and was among the team leaders in on base percentage while sharing time at first and third base. Also playing for Lon Morris this season was Megan Frederick. A sophomore, Megan batted .458 and led her team in most offensive categories while playing first base. Frederick was in the top five in the conference in batting average, hits and RBIs. She led the conference in doubles. Megan, a 2006 BHS grad, was selected to the First Team All-Region and First Team All-Region Academic this season. |
