Lake Palestine U.M.C. I'm sorry about not getting this column in the paper last week. I typed it and then forgot to send it. I guess I'll just chalk it up to old age. Anyway, most of the news is still good for this week with only a few minor changes. Mother's Day came a little late in the form of gifts this year. As mentioned last week, the Mother's Day appreciation gifts were lost in the mail for a few days, but they did arrive by the next Sunday. All the women in the church were honored with a rose pin. Better late than never. That Sunday was, however, graduation Sunday for those in our congregation who are moving on to a new adventure in their lives. Those graduates which the church honored were Donna Sullivan, Johnny Harrod, Holly Skrobinski, Andrea Skipper and Jackie McAllister who is the first graduate from the GED program at the church. Angela Martin blessed us all with a beautiful solo in their honor. Speaking of the GED proby gram, several members of the church attended the graduation at Wagstaff Gymnasium at TJC on Thursday evening. Jackie McAllister was our first graduate from the program. Everyone was very proud that night. Afterwards, a graduation dinner was held at Jucy's. The monthly fellowship meal was also held after church on the 18th with the Administrative Council meeting held directly after that. Dale Whisenhunt is recovering from his recent illness. He was in church on Sunday. Also, Joyce Martin is going to have a little work done at the dermatologist's office. She would like all of our prayers about that. Bill Martin has been to see the doctor and is waiting to hear the results as of this writing. Susie Owen enjoyed her trip to the A&M graduation, but she said she was very glad to be home. The Kite Day on Saturday the 17th was a success. With the help of Dorothy Botts' bullhorn and lots of volunteers from the church, several neighborhood children came out to try their hand at flying kites. It really didn't matter that there was very little wind. There were still lots of door prizes and plenty of food. We hear that Sunny and Jim Farley have been in Paris, France. It should be a fun trip because they went over there to surprise Sunny's parents, Gary and Nancy Brown, for their anniversary or somebody's birthday, I'm not sure which. The Browns had no idea their whole family was coming over to help them celebrate. It would have been fun to see the look on their faces when they saw everyone. The next big event coming up for everyone in the church is The Chuck Wagon Gang country gospel concert. It will be on June 6th (Friday) at 6:30pm at the new amphitheater on the lake. The barbecue meal before that will be starting around 5:30 PM at the church. There is no charge for the concert, but the meal will be $6.00. Monies from it will go toward the Angel Food trailer purchase. On June 7th (Saturday), the day after the concert, there will be a family fishing day and fish fry down by the lake. It's meant for everyone to come out and have a relaxing time enjoying nature and the fellowship of friends and family. This day in particular was chosen because it is a free (no license required) day for fishing in the state of Texas. |
