Letters To The Editor

Please review Letter to the Editor policy before submitting letter. The policy is found in the information column on the left hand side of this page.

Dear Editor:

Please accept our sincere thanks for the public service announcements concerning the GED Preparation Program that you run in The Statesman. Our most recent request for a summer Math instructor was promptly answered today -- just a few hours after this Thursday's edition of The Statesman hit the newsstands! A wonderfully qualified volunteer has stepped forward and will begin teaching the Math segment of instruction next Monday. With your help we have enrolled over 30 students during the last ten months.

Thank you so much for your support of literacy and education in East Texas.

Dear Editor:

The Friends of the Chandler Public Library would like to thank Citizens State Bank for their recent donations that helped make our annual garage sale the most successful ever. Their support throughout the years has made it possible for the library to have a modern facility, print materials and technology that serve Chandler area residents.

We would also like to thank Women's Unity Fellowship for their generous donation to our summer reading program. Their contributions have allowed us to engage guest storytellers and provide prizes and refreshments for our young patrons.

Though the library receives funding from the county and city of Chandler, it is the support of our benefactors that enables us to enhance the services that make our library one of the best small town libraries in the area.

Yours truly, Karen Osteen Secretary Friends of the Chandler Public Library

Dear Editor:

Almost 20 years ago, a group of young women representing most of the churches in Chandler, formed Women's Unity Fellowship to provide a helping hand to organizations that make the lives of area children a little better. During these years, they have supported Chandler Elementary, the Chandler Public Library, God's Open Hands, the Chandler VFD as well as establishing the Brenda Epperson Memorial Scholarship for Future Teachers. Through fundraisers like the annual Christmas Tour of Homes and the Red Neck Soiree (a benefit BBQ), thousands of dollars have been re-invested in our community and our children.

Our recent Soiree was one of the most successful ever, and we would like to thank everyone who contributed gifts for the silent auction and the wonderful assortment of foods and wild game meat. We especially want to thank Kim and Tom Birdwell who open their home each year for the event and spend many hours in preparation.

We look forward to seeing everyone in December at the Tour of Homes.
