Brownsboro Bands Advance to State Competition Congratulations to the 2007-'08 Brownsboro Jr. High School band and the Brownsboro High School Band for advancing to State Competition in the ATSSB Outstanding Performance Series (OPS). The Association of Texas Small School Bands (ATSSB) provides state competition for 1A-3A High School bands based on their spring performances at UIL Concert and Sight Reading Contest held in the spring of each year. Each 1A-3A school may enter a recording made at any UIL or state approved contest of any of its three tunes that are required to be performed for state competition. The award winning Brownsboro Jr. High Band and the Sweepstakes Brownsboro High School Band entered all three tunes played at this year's UIL competition held in Hallsville and in Troup. The first level of the competition is held at the region level where all bands from region 21 have the opportunity to enter their contest tunes and was judged in Giddings, Tx. Both Bands then advanced to the Area competition which was judged on Tuesday, June 17th in Lubbock, Texas. The Jr. High's march, Dover Patrol by Wagner, and the High School's concert piece, The Hounds of Spring by Alfred Reed, both advanced to the state level competition. Both recordings will now be judged along with the winners of the different Areas around the state at the State competition held on July 27th at the Texas Bandmasters Convention in San Antonio, Texas. "Congratulations are surely in order to the students in these two fine organizations. This is the first time that we have had tapes advance to the state competition. It is truly an honor to have Brownsboro represented at the State contest, especially by both our Jr. High and High School bands. I am extremely proud of the hard work of all of our students in both programs," said high school director Jeff Russell. The Brownsboro Jr. High School Band is directed by Mr. Steve Wise and is assisted by Mrs. Alice Slayton and the High School Band is directed by Mr. Jeff Russell and is assisted by Mrs. Michelle Stuckey. |
