BVFD makes first ESD withdrawal

Brownsboro Volunteer Fire and Rescue made its first draw request for Henderson County ESD Number Five Thursday, January 8. The request came as part of the regular monthly meeting of the Emergency Services District board.

Included in the request were regular monthly bills for line items such as utilities, fuel, supplies and postage, association dues, equipment and capital expenditures including an FM 3079 substation. The costs for these items reached $4,400 for the bills, $600 for the dues, $35,000 for the equipment and $10,000 for capital expenditures, reaching a total of $50,000.

Board President Leroy Chambers said, "There are no bills for us (the ESD board) to pay this evening."

Calvin Morris, board member, made the motion to approve the volunteer fire department's draw request and Ben Bearden, board member, seconded.

The board re-elected its officers, then heard from the fire department on its history of calls throughout 2008.

Overall, Brownsboro Volunteer Fire Department put in 2,819 man hours into answering calls in 2008. During this time, the department received 20 struc- ture fire calls, 197 medical calls, 49 grass fire calls and a variety of others for a total of 453 calls.

Brownsboro Fire Chief Robert Chambers said, "Not many people know the amount of work the department puts in every day."

The Chandler/Brownsboro Statesman was named the official newspaper for the Emergency Services District. Bearden made the motion and Board Member Jim Palady seconded.

Finally, the board approved sending its financial statement to the Henderson County Commissioners' Court. It is required for the board to send this statement to the court in January.

Morris made the motion to approve sending the statement and Palady seconded.

The meeting was adjourned afterward.
