Lake Palestine U.M.C.
There was a large crowd in church on Sunday, and we were glad to see those who hadn't been there in a while. The choir has begun their specials again after the Christmas break. For their last one, Mary Ann Whisenhunt and Gail Johnston sang a duet with the choir singing in the background. It was very good.
Angela Martin announced that it is that time of year again - Girl Scout cookie sale time. She leads the local Girl Scouts, so if anyone wants some cookies, just contact her.
Also, The United Methodist Women have begun a new project. They are collecting bed linens for God's Open Hands. For anyone with sheets, any size, or blankets, there is a white basket at the back of the church in which to place them.
Betsy Rowan and Miranda made a trip to Dallas on Monday so that Miranda could see a specialist up there. We pray that they can help.
Also, John Reveire is going to the doctor to check on an irregular heart rate.
There is some good news. We hear that Pauline Johnson is doing so well she may get to come home from rehab soon.
Kaethe Griffin celebrated her birthday last week. She received calls from overseas and gifts from her children over here.
Bernard and Linda Massey had a big family gathering last Saturday. They are preparing to go back to South Carolina soon.
We hear that Joyce Martin has been shopping for her new 50th wedding anniversary outfit. That's coming up on February 7th starting at 2 PM with a renewal of vows and then a reception afterward.
Also on that day, at Lane's Chapel, there will be a Transforming Church seminar led by Dr. Stan Copeland. It starts at 9:30 AM and includes lunch. Those interested in going should contact the church. The cost for this will be $10.
Finally, don't forget to check out the church's webpage. It is located at http:// lakepalestineumc.com. It is gradually getting built up and has a very interesting story in it about the new Memorial Garden put in by the Dan Newsom family in Dan's memory. It is a beautiful addition to the property, and we thank the family for their generosity and hard work.
