BMC announces organizational meeting
BMC Youth Foundation will be having its organizational meeting for boys' baseball and girls' softball on Sunday, January 25, at 3:00 in the Chandler Community Center. Any parent or coach who wishes to be involved this spring is invited to attend.
After a year's absence and dozens of phone calls from parents and coaches to City Hall, girls' softball will be making its return to Winchester Park. Divisions offered will be from Instructional TBall (co-ed) to Sopho- mores for boys and Juniors for girls.
All four fields will be utilized with the boys and girls both expected to occupy two each.
This year, girls' teams from Poyner and Frankston have requested to play with the girls' league, so contrary to some rumors that have been floating around, BMC girls' softball does not anticipate having to play in another town at this time. Boundaries for the Chandler and Brownsboro girls' leagues, which most likely will be according to which school the player attends, will not be enforced until next year, allowing a girl to play this year in whichever league she chooses.
Also this year, players and parents will see some changes upon their arrival to Winchester Park. Most noticeable will be the concession stand expansion which will more than double the preparation and serving areas and have three large walk-up windows to help cut down on the wait. Both restrooms are expected to see some upgrades also. The infield of the field that the Freshman and Sophomore boys play on has been planted with Tiff Bermuda grass. This was done to better prepare them for play on grass infields as they get ready to move on to high school. The other three will remain as dirt infields so as not to rule out being able to request girls' softball district or state tournaments. All of the fields will have additional improvements made to them prior to the beginning of the season. If anyone has any questions regarding either the boys' or girls' league, please call Sheryl Starling at 903-216- 1006.
