Happy Valentine's Day to All

Did you know that we live on part of the original Cherokee Indian Treaty lands?

The Lions wish to heartily thank Mr. Tim West, owner of the Roseland Plantation on Highway 64, east of Chandler, for his interesting and informative presentation on the history of this area. The Merle Hambric Plantation originated in the mid-1800s, shortly after the founding of Texas, and at its peak consisted of 3,100 acres. The Plantation, initially 500 acres, was increased in size by Mr. Hambric and he became the largest cotton farmer in East Texas.

The original Hambric Plantation main house was initially finished in 1854. It is now the Roseland Plantation main house and currently is occupied by Mr. and Mrs. West. It has been renovated over the years, and the original property has been reduced in size to 10 acres. Under the Wests' ownership, it has become a popular Bed and Breakfast site. One of the main attractions today is a very large reproduction of Di Vinci's "Last Supper" that is housed in a large building on the site. Wow!
