"Doubters are thinking two different things at the same time, and they cannot decide about anything they do." James 1:8
The Book of James is like a short version of the Biblical teachings on how to live a Christian life. If ever you are in doubt about the direction your path is going as a Christian, re-read James. The Book of James is outlined as "Chapter 1: What is expected a Christian will go through; Chapter 2: What Christian's faith consists of; Chapter 3: How a Christian should speak; In Chapter 4, How a Christian should treat others; and in Chapter 5: What is expected from a Christian. " James' lessons are as if he wrote them for today. "Faith by itself that does nothing is dead." (2:17). "A big forest fire can be started with only a little flame. And the tongue is like a fire." (3:5). Let us remember that we do not know what will happen tomorrow! "Your life is like a mist. You can see it for a short time, but then it goes away." (4:14). So reading James as a refresher course in the assessment of one's life as a Christian may well be worth the effort.
The Conference has requested that each church provide them with a Church History. Alyne Jackson, Martha Copeland, Rosie Bussman and Dorothy McHam were elected as Church Historians at the last Charge Conference. They will need help of every member of our church, in order to do a comprehensive history of the church. It doesn't matter how many years you have been a member, if it happened yesterday, it is history! So please submit articles, remembrances, positive or entertaining events, and your participation in the numerous Bible studies, and church missions.
The church hostesses and members of the United Methodist Men want to thank everyone who helped with the "Clean-Up Campaign." Our church has had a facelift inside and out. A fresh coat of paint and manicured grounds add to the attractiveness of our buildings. The inside was scrubbed, polished and the attics were organized. Members participating said they had a "fun" time working together.
Next Sunday the United Methodist Men will be serving their famous hamburger luncheon following the 11 a.m. service. Donations will be accepted to help increase the UMM resources used in support of the many activities and missions of the church.
Saturday, March 7th, the UMW Spring Siritual Growth program will meet at the Lakeview Conference Center. Contact Natalie Smith, President or Tina Burch, Treasurer if you are interested in joining this group of very active ladies.
The church Council Board will be meeting next Sunday at 6 p.m. Anyone interested in the function of this committee are welcome to attend.
Happy Birthday to: Kenneth Parks, Jerry Starkey, Sara Hall, Shelia Grace, Darin Smith, Lauren Magee, Kate Griffin and Travis Daniell.
Thought for the Week: "Have no fear about tomorrow, for God is already there!"
