Texas Xtreme defeats Dallas team by 13
The Texas Xtreme semi-professional football team defeated the Dallas Bulldogs, 27- 14, Saturday, Feb. 28th at Bruce Field.
It was the team's home opener in Athens.
The Xtreme led 20-0 at halftime, a lead that increased to 27-0 in the fourth quarter.
The Bulldogs two scores came after the Xtreme offense fumbled on its last two possessions of the game to set Dallas up with a short field each time.
The Xtreme will host the Kaufman County Colt 45's on Saturday, March 7 at Bruce Field.
Kickoff is set for 7 p.m.
Xtreme owners and coaches Larry Anding and Gary Craig were pleased with the overall performance of their team, despite only 26 players being available for the game, according to a team press release faxed to The Statesman this week.
The Xtreme offense was led by former Trinity Valley Community College quarterback Marcus Bowman.
Despite strong wind conditions, Bowman completed 8-of-14 pass attempts for 253 yards and one touchdown and one interception. He also rushed for 42 yards on six carries and scored a touchdown on the ground.
Bowman hit Creadell Buns with an 86-yard touchdown pass and Zack Guillory was the recipient of a 42-yard scoring strike.
Eight-year veteran Brandon Thompson led all rushers with 70 yards on 10 carries.
The Xtreme rushed for 148 yards and totaled 401 yards on offense for the game.
Offensive standouts were Adrian Gonzales, Jerry Martin, Marvin Lyons, Ben Swain and Cedric Kiser.
Angel Nava was 3-for-4 on PAT's after one attempt was blocked.
Defensively, the Xtreme surrendered a total of 137 yards. The Bulldog rushing attack held to a -21 yards on 28 carries, while it gained 158 yards through the air on 10-of-20 attempts.
John Litchfield subbed in for All-American linebacker Lonterio Osborn and recorded four sacks, one forced fumble, and one interception.
Flim Kindle and Lance Powell had two sacks each as the Xtreme defense totaled 11 sacks on the game.
Cornerback Reggie Calhoun surrendered only one pass completion during the game, and returned an interception 90 yards for a touchdown.
Other defensive standouts were Kerry Yarbough, Jason Anding, Jerry Martin, Ian Mason, Brandon Lyons and Nico Adams (with an interception).
