WISHFUL THINKING

What had been between Their young, innocent hearts, Had been deliciously wonderful ... But, now that decades Had passed between their absent lives, Sadly she admitted That what she felt for him Had been reduced to Wishful thinking. As she took a deep, cleansing breath Before she opened the door To see him and his face After all of this time, She had to chastise her heart To beat more quietly And for her pulse to stop Drumming in her ears, Or she'd never be able to hear His quiet knock upon her door! by Linda Amos

WHAT IS A DAY?

There is 24 hours in a day, Eight to sleep and eight to play; Eight to work, that makes a day. But we must find some time to pray. It only takes a few moments To ask forgiveness for what you say To others as you go thru the day. Yes, we need to remember to pray. by Thomas L. Howard

WHEN OLD GLORY PASSES BY

Son, look up at that floating Flag; We served it well, but we never brag. Look at its colors, Red, Blue and White, And she is bedecked with stars like night. Son, just look at that Flag so high, For her I've seen the best of men die To keep her there that she might wave Over those who sleep, o'er the living brave. Do Americans have to be taught to stand With hat on breast or the outstretched hand When Old Glory passes? That Flag tells they be The freest of men by any sea. It gives them the right to vote their choice, It gives them the right to express their voice. It makes a man's home a Citadel strong, It brings God's Love to days that are long. Son, I've saluted that Flag for years; I love each fold, each star, each stripe, And, when at last I find God's sunlight, Keep all your honors of which men brag. Bury me `neath my Nation's Flag. Son, look up! In that Flag you'll see America now and what she shall be. Submitted by Otis Rainwater
