St. Boniface Catholic

by Sue Beams

On Palm Sunday of the Lord's Passion, members of St. Boniface attending the Saturday Vigil, witnessed the blessing of the Palms.

At the start of the Liturgy the entrance to Jerusalem is remembered in the Gospel readings. The congregation filed in procession into the Church carrying the newly blessed palm branches. The Passion of our Lord was read from the account of Mark.

In his homily, Fr. Luke spoke of the triumphant entry of Jesus into Jerusalem on the donkey amid shouts of "Hosanna!" In those days there were as many as two million people gathered for a festival. There were those in the crowd who wondered who He was. There were those who thought Him to be a great prophet. And, there were those who expected Him to be a great king who will replace the ruling Romans. He was welcomed in joyful exaltation! This infuriated the Jewish leaders. Jesus purified the temple by chasing away the money changers. He was the promised Messiah!

Humility led Jesus Christ to enter Jerusalem on a lowly donkey. Humility led Jesus Christ to death on a cross. Humility led Jesus Christ to the Resurrection. That humility, the mother of ALL virtues, leads to true life. True Life in Christ; without it we are nothing. Christians in name only are nothing! Ideals do not translate into reality!

Fr. Luke gave a special blessing to all who were celebrating birthdays and anniversaries this month following Mass. Congratulations!

The Holy Week schedule is as follows:

Thursday - Mass of the Lord's Supper with traditional washing of feet beginning at 6:30 followed by Adoration until 11 pm. (There will be a solemn and prayerful breaking of bread following the Liturgy.)

Good Friday - Stations of the Cross (outside) will begin at 3pm followed by the service of the Passion of our Lord, followed by Stations of the Cross in Spanish.

Holy Saturday - The Easter Vigil (bilingual) Mass begins at 8pm. (Please note that there will NOT be a 5pm Mass.)

Easter Sunday - Masses are at 9:30 and noon (Spanish)

An Easter egg hunt will follow the Easter morning Masses. Please see the Sunday bulletin for information on all that is happening in our parish.

Again, congratulations to all who are celebrating birthdays and anniversaries. Please pray for the sick and suffering and remember the faithful departed in prayer. We continue to pray for those serving our country.

May God bless each of you and keep you in His care.

Have a wonderful Easter!
