Wise runs for fourth consecutive board term

Dusty Wise of Brownsboro is on the May 9 election ballot for the Brownsboro Independent School District Board of Trustees election. An incumbent in the race, his spot is one of three up for grabs.

Wise, owner of Y's Hometown Foods in Brownsboro, said if elected, this will be his fourth term serving on

the school board.

"Academically, we're doing better than when I first went aboard," he said. "We've got several recognized campuses; I'm very proud of the school's accomplishments and they're doing better every year."

In the years Wise served with the school board, the district made several improvements to the campuses and even acquired land for expansion.

He first ran for his board seat because he had two children go through the BISD system and felt a sense of responsibility toward other students in the area.

"I wanted to put them first because they are our future," Wise said. "I want to be a part of that."

For Wise, the most important thing to remember is he is there for the children and the taxpayers. Spending tax dollars wisely is always important.

"The number one issue now is finances," he stated. "We're seeing a glimmer of hope with federal finances and we hope it will help with school funding."

Also of importance is academics and good morals and values for the students.

"I think school is the major centerpiece for the community. We need to make sure both Chandler and Brownsboro feel as if they're a part of the school system," Wise said.

Dusty Wise and his wife Dot have lived in Brownsboro for around 29 years, and Wise has owned his grocery store for nearly 18 years. Of his two children who went through the school system, one, Donna King, became a teacher.

Overall, Wise said his main reason for staying involved in the school system is because he feels a responsibility to the area and wants the community and the school to succeed.
