Services for Odie Beard Gibson, 83, of Chandler, Texas, were held Tuesday, May 5, 2009 at 2:00 p.m., at West Lake Baptist Church with Rev. Bob Sexton officiating.

Burial was in Chilton Cemetery in Big Sandy, Texas, under the direction of Chandler Memorial Funeral Home.

Mr. Gibson passed away May 1, 2009 in Tyler, Texas.

He was born April 17, 1926 in Henderson, Texas. He lived in Chandler about 27 years, was a member of West Lake Baptist Church of Chandler and retired from Exxon. He served in the U.S. Army, WWII, where he was a Sergeant and a Purple Heart recipient.

Mr. Gibson was preceded in death by his wife, Hattie Gibson. Survivors include sons, Don Gibson of Houston, Guy Gibson of Waskom and Joe Gibson of Chandler; daughter, Jane Clanahan of Plano; brothers, Wallace Gibson of Columbus, Ohio and Melvin Gibson of Lavaca, Arkansas; sister, Ethel Holt of Conyers, Georgia; 10 grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.
