St. Boniface Catholic
On the Seventh Sunday of Easter, members of St. Boniface celebrated the Feast of the Ascension of the Lord. The feast celebrates the exaltation of Jesus. Christ who ascended into heaven in the flesh has left the community of believers to continue His work. Together we make up the 'new' Body of Christ.
In his homily, Fr. Luke told us that Jesus had no 'backup plan.' Before His ascension the mandates of the Lord were fulfilled. His message of salvation is ours to continue. We must proclaim with our actions. The work of the Lord is done through us! Jesus ascended into heaven so that we, too, will. After having descended He was open to ascension. He descended while being cursed, while being crowned with thorns, while dying on the cross. Our everyday trials and tribulations are the foundation of our spiritual journey with Christ. The lower we descend, the higher we will ascend!
Following the Eucharistic Celebration, visitors and guests joined members in the community room for refreshments. The Altar Society provided a birthday cake to honor Fr. Luke on his birthday. Fr. Luke did manage to blow out all the candles as those in attendance sang 'Happy Birthday.'
We are in the process of making a new church directory. Anyone who has not registered as members of St. Boniface is encouraged to do so in order to be included in the directory.
Evangelization is one of the major missions of the Church. Every Christian is encouraged to evangelize others. You can fulfill your mission through participation in the Evangelization Committee. Please consider joining Fr. Luke as we commit ourselves to reaching out to the non-practicing and inactive Catholics as well as non-Catholics and non- Christians in the Chandler area. Fr. Luke urgently needs your help!
On Saturday, May 30 and Sunday, May 31 there will be a car wash (following each Mass). The Youth of St. Boniface will be washing cars for donations. Please support our young people.
The Faith Formation classes are on summer break. When classes resume in the fall, there is a need for additional catechists. Please contact Sandy Bunch for more information on how you can take a more active role in serving Christ by passing on the faith to our children, youth and other adults. We Need You!!
Special Request: Lectors and Altar Servers, please be faithful to the schedule. If you are unable to serve at your assigned time, please make arrangements for a replacement. Lectors should contact Joe Guerra and Altar Servers should contact Tracy DeLaGarza if a sub cannot be found.
The Pastoral Council has decided to hold the 11th Anniversary of St Boniface on June 14th, beginning with a bilingual Mass at 10:30 followed by lunch, games, and even a talent show. There is a sign-up sheet in the community room.
Congratulations and Best Wishes to those who are celebrating birthdays and anniversaries. We pray for those who are sick and suffering. We remember in prayer the faithful departed, especially the step-mother of Evelyn Schroeder who passed this week. Most especially we continue to keep our brave men and women serving in the Armed Forces in our prayers. It is with grateful hearts that we do so.
Have a wonderful week!
