Sheriff's Report
The following is the Henderson County Sheriff's Office report for this week:
On Tuesday, June 16, 2009, Henderson County Sheriff's Office Sgt. Thomas Robertson conducted a traffic stop in Murchison, Henderson County, Texas. The driver of the vehicle was identified as Christopher Martin, 34 years of age. Sgt. Robertson conducted a search and located suspected methamphetamine over 1 gram less than 4 grams, on Martin.
Martin was arrested and placed in the Henderson County Jail for Possession of a Controlled Substance over one gram less than four grams. Martin is awaiting arraignment in the Henderson County Jail.
Sgt. Robertson was assisted on the traffic stop by Henderson County Deputy Brady McGhee.
* Also on June 16, 2009, Henderson County Drug Enforcement Unit Investigators Ronny Halbert, David Faught and Darrell Waller responded to a residence in Seven Points in reference to a narcotics complaint. Upon arrival, investigators made contact with the owner, Charla Davis, W/F, 36 years of age. Investigators obtained consent to search the property.
During the investigation, investigators located a quantity of methamphetamine inside the residence and a quantity of mephetamine from Davis' pocket.
Davis was arrested and was transported to Henderson County Justice Center charged with Possession of Controlled Substance, pg!<1 gram. No bond has has been set at this time.
* On June 18, Henderson County Sheriff's office investigators Michael Teel, Wick Gabbard, and Michael Shelley continued working a burglary case in which Major Kevin Hanes, Investigator Ceresa Ballard, DA Investigator Jody Miller and Lt. Botie Hillhouse had recovered some stolen property from Joshua Morris, 18 years of age, and arrested the night before. Investigators Teel and Shelley were able to recover more stolen property from Antonio Dukes and arresting him for burglary of a habitation. Dukes was transported to the Henderson County Jail where is currently awaiting arraignment. This investigation will continue with more possible arrests to come.
* On Thursday, June 18, 2009, the Henderson County Sheriff's Office received a call in reference to an explosion in the Blanton Ranch Estates subdivision at Seven Points that could be involved with a possible methamphetamine lab. There were reported injuries to a female victim.
The Henderson County Drug Enforcement Unit along with deputies and investigators responded to the call. There were several subjects at the residence. When officers arrived on the scene, the Seven Points Fire Department and East Texas Medical Center EMS were working on the victim that had been injured. The victim was taken to ETMC Gun Barrel City and later transferred to Parkland Medical Center in Dallas.
Investigators with the Sheriff's Office and HC District Attorney's Office conducted a search of the residence. Chemicals used to manufacture methamphetamine and suspected methamphetamine were at the residence. The explosion was caused from the chemicals at the scene; no fire at the scene. The explosion was of a chemical nature. Joseph Myers was at the scene when officers arrived.
After conducting a search of the residence, Myers, 28 years of age, was arrested for manufacturing a Controlled Substance. DEA was contacted to destroy the hazardous materials left at the scene. DEA HAZMAT responded and assisted with the investigation.
Myers had a child at the residence. Child Protective Services was notified and responded to assist. Myers was taken to the Henderson County Jail where he is awaiting arraignment.
Investigators were later contacted by Parkland Medical Center and advised the victim had passed away due to the injuries received by the explosion. An autopsy has been ordered and is being conducted by Southwest Medical Center in Dallas, Texas. Myers will be facing further charges after the investigation into the methamphetamine lab is complete, because a subject was injured. This investigation is being completed by all agencies working together to accomplish the goal.
Then on Thursday, June 19, 2009, The HC Sheriff's Office received probable cause for issuance of a murder warrant obtained by HC Justice of the Peace Precinct No. 6, Milton Adams. The Murder Warrant stems from an active investigation by the Sheriff's office in which a 20-year-old female identified as Katie Shelton was killed in a chemical explosion from a possible methamphetamine lab on June 18, 2009. Myers was arraigned by Henderson County Justice of the Peace No. 1 Henry Ashford and bail was set at $1,000,000.00
* On Wednesday, June 17, 2009 Deputy Richard Miller received information in reference to possible child pornography in an apartment at the North Loop Apartments in Athens, Henderson County, Texas.
Deputy Miller contacted Investigator Ceresa Ballard, giving her the information. Deputy Miller took a report and Major Kevin Hanes obtained a search warrant which was issued by HC Justice of the Peace Milton Adams. Major Hanes along with Investigator Ballard, Lt. Botie Hillhouse, Sgt. Brad Gray, Deputy Miller and HC District Attorney's Office Investigator Jody Miller, executed the search warrant issued by Judge Adams. Investigators located child pornography inside the residence.
The suspect Joshua Morris, W/M, born April 10, 1990, was not home at the time the search warrant was executed. Major Hanes obtained an arrest warrant for Morris for possession of child pornography which was issued by Judge Milton Adams.
Joshua Morris was arrested and placed into the HC Jail. After further investigation, after making contact with Morris, Investigators took Morris back to his residence and gathered stolen property which was taken in a burglary in Henderson County. Morris was also charged with Burglary of a Habitation. Morris was arraigned on June 18, 2009 by Henderson County Justice of the Peace Henry Ashford. Morris's bail was set at $35,000.00.
* On June 18, 2009 at approximately 8:00 A.M., Henderson County Sheriff's Warrant Deputy Billy Jack Valentine gathered information on suspect Todd Benjamin Gregory, W/M, born June 18, 1965, that he was at 306 Channel Drive in the Tamarack Addition in Gun Barrel City. Deputy Valentine and other deputies along with Gun Barrel City police officers went to the suspected location in an attempt to serve warrants on Gregory for aggravated assault with deadly weapon and burglary of a habitation.
Upon arrival, officers heard people in the residence but they refused to come to the door. The Henderson County Sheriff's Department tactical team was called out and a search warrant was obtained from Justice of the Peace No. 2, Judge Dale Blaylock. The search warrant was executed by the tactical team and Todd Gregory and Julie Harrison were found to be hiding in the back bedroom of the residence.
Gregory was taken into custody and Harrison was released. Gregory was placed in the Henderson County Jail awaiting arraignment.
The HC Sheriff's Department was assisted by Gun Barrel City Police Department, and the Gun Barrel City Fire Department.
Accidental Shooting
On June 7, 2009, Milton Sparks, was struck once in the cheek by a .357 round while he was attempting to assist in slaughtering a hog.
Actor Carlos Gallardo, while attempting to slaughter the hog, shot the hog once in the side with a .357 magnum. The bullet first struck the hog then ricocheted off the hog and struck the victim in the chest.
Victim was transported to East Texas MedicalCenter Tyler where he underwent surgery and is now in ICU in stable condition.
* On June 3, 2009, Henderson County Drug Enforcement Investigators went to 200 Sunset Street in Malakoff, Texas, in an attempt to serve a felony warrant on Joey Tamojermone Givens, 33 years of age, for a 2nd charge of Manufacture and Delivery of a Controlled Substance /Cocaine over 4 grams.
On May 14, 2009, Givens had been arrested on Man/Del of a Controlled Substance over 4 grams after he was stopped in traffic by Lt. Botie Hillhouse and Inv. Darrell Waller on Highway 31 near Malakoff.
Henderson County Drug Enforcement Investigators were able to obtain and execute a search warrant on Givens' Apartment. Investigators located a large quantity of cocaine at the location.
A warrant was obtained and on June 3, 2009, Investigators went to Givens ' apartment complex in an attempt to serve the warrant. On arrival, Investigators located Givens sitting in a vehicle at the complex. When investigators attempted to arrest Givens, he attempted to evade arrest. This led investigators on a foot chase through the Wheeler Apartments and onto Hwy. 31. Givens was caught near the highway and place into custody. During the foot chase, investigators recovered a large quantity of Crack Cocaine that Givens dropped while evading arrest. This resulted in a third charge of Manufacture/Delivery of a Controlled Substance over 4 grams.
Joey Givens was taken to Judge Milton Adams and was arraigned. Givens was then transported to the Henderson County Jail where his bond is set at $75,000 on each charge of Man/Del of a controlled substance over 4 grams, and $10,000 for Evading Arrest,for a total of $160,000 in bond.
Henderson County Drug Enforcement Investigators Ronny Halbert,David Faught, Kenny Collard, and Darrell Waller were involved in the Investigation on Givens.
* On June 5, 2009, the Henderson County Sheriff 's office began holding out-of-county inmates. In the latter part of May a contract was entered into between Henderson County and Smith County in order for Henderson County to house overflow inmates from Smith County. This has been a long process and has been a top priority of the Sheriff's Office. Currently eight female inmates from Smith County are being held in Henderson County Jail.
