Lake Palestine U.M.C.

by Barbara Cade

It was a good day for the fathers at church as the LPUMC chapter of the Red Hat Society formed the choir at the 11 a.m. service and sang "Amen" in honor of all the men in the audience. They did a great job and looked wonderful in their purple and red outfits.

We were glad to hear that Sheri Morton is recovering after her surgery on a broken leg she received while on her cruise in Alaska. She has a lot of healing ahead. Our prayers are with her and Jim.

It was very good to see Ike Barker in church. He just recently was in ICU with a bleeding ulcer. We are so glad he has recovered quickly.

We were sorry to hear that Mary Ann Whisenhunt's mother in Oklahoma has suffered a stroke. We will be praying for her.

Dorothy Botts had some medical procedures done this past Monday.

"The Shack" discussion group is going strong. It meets on Sundays at the church at 3 p.m. Anyone is invited to attend.

Barb Cade was in Austin last week for a school meeting.

It was great to see Robert and Winter Arthur's new baby in church on Sunday. He's young, but looks strong, handsome and healthy.

The Massey twins, Deacon and Drake, were also in church. They rolled up to the children's sermon in their double stroller.

We were very happy to hear that the Hitt's grandson, Tracy, is now able to tolerate some solid food. He has been on a feeding tube for a very long time and being a teenager, he was getting very frustrated with it.

Trudy and Fred Riddle have a full schedule ahead of them in July. They will be spending the month visiting relatives and friends. This week, Trudy's sister had heart surgery. We are praying for her.

Alex Martin is spending the week in Rusk, Texas as part of the UM Army.

The Fourth of July committee is meeting every Monday at 8 p.m. until the big event which is only a little over a week away now. It will be hot that day, but the snow cone stand, drinks, water slide and the chance to play "42" in the cool air conditioning should make it bearable. There will also be several vendors there. Pop's Chicken will have a booth set up and there will also be a barbecue stand from Frankston. The fun day starts at 2 p.m., and will end about 6 p.m. By 7 p.m., the pre-fireworks entertainment will start, and then, of course, the fireworks will begin at sundown. Everyone is welcome to come for all or just part of the day. Admission is free, but any donations will go to help God's Open Hands or the building of handicapped facilities at the amphitheater.
