LAKE PALESTINE UMC
Well, it's been several weeks since I've had a chance to write this column, and lots has been going on since then.
I just hope I can cover even some of it.
First, we want to thank Angels Martin who filled in for Gail Johnston as song leader. Gail has been on vacation in the Austin area this week.
We were also happy to have Robert and Winter Arthur join the church on Sunday.
Little Bobby Arthur was also baptized.
The Red Hat ladies in the Lake Palestine area had another fun weekend, this time in Elgin.
About nine of them went down there for the inauguration of Queen Ruby Simon. I hear it was a really fun time for everyone.
Mary Ann Whisenhunt is reovering from back surgery which she had last week. We are sending many prayers her way.
The children of the church took a trip to Discovery Science Place in Tyler about two weeks ago. Word has it the one they had to drag out of there was Rev. Richard.
Richard Franko is settling into his new job in Oklahoma City. We hear he is really tired when he makes it home on the weekends.
A new ministry is being started by the church. We will be buying new stuffed teddy bears and other such stuffed toys and dress them up and give them to the local fire department and police to have available for children who need them.
Ken and Barb Cade made it home from their vacation in Iowa last week. The weather was so cool at night that people had to wear jackets.
Our prayers are with LeeAnn Boggs this week. She will be undergoing surgery and then going through several weeks of rehab. Her daughter and granddaughter are in town now to help her.
Dorothy Botts has been having back trouble lately. We hope she feels better soon.
The Worship Committee met last Sunday to plan, of all things, Christmas. It doesn't seem possible.
About nine people have signed up to be a part of the 5K run this coming weekend in Chandler.
Hopefully, more will be participating as the date draws nearer. Walking, running and motorized chairs are acceptable for this event.
Everyone is encouraged to support it.
On Aug. 30, a cookout and initial meeting for the Easter passion play cast at the amphitheater is planned.
Anyone interested in being a part of the play is invited to this event. It will start at 3 p.m.
