ST. BONIFACE

Sue Beams

On the Twenty-Third Sunday in Ordinary Time, members of St. Boniface Catholic Church heard God's promise of salvation in the readings for the day.

In the Gospel reading, the healing that the deaf man received from Jesus was so complete that his ears were opened and the impediment of his speech was no longer present.

In his homily, Fr. Luke spoke of the healing of the deaf man but also the effects of that healing. Through His power of touch, Christ healed.

The touch of the Master can transform our lives so that we become His instruments. The Lord is on the side of the helpless, the opposed, the captives and the down-trodden. His promise to the exiled is that the Lord is on their side. The deaf, blind and mute are easily victimized. They were healed to hear the truth - to proclaim God's word.

God has opened our physical eyes and ears. At our Baptism, our spiritual eyes and inner ears were opened. Fr. Luke asked us not to be partial, to speak for the helpless and the defenseless. God is on their side and will not abandon them. There is power in touch to heal. The power of our healing touch is love. Give that touch to those who need it.

A short Pastoral Council meeting is set for Sunday following the 9:30 Mass. All members of the Pastoral Council are urged to attend.

The Commissioning of Catechists and the Commitment of the Parents will be on Wednesday during the 6:30 p.m. Mass. All students, Catechists and parents are requested to be present for this special beginning to the Faith Formation year. Any new students are asked to register with Sandy Bunch.

Don't forget to sign up to get your picture taken for the new church directory. Please note your preferred time along with your name, address and phone number. Photos will be taken Oct 2-3.

Hi, kids! Did you answer the questions in the bulletin correctly? If so, keep up the good work for four more weeks to win a prize! All answers should be written and given to Fr. Luke.

Congratulations and best wishes to all who are celebrating birthdays and anniversaries. We pray for the sick and suffering, that they may feel the healing touch of Christ. We remember the souls of the faithful departed, that they are in the presence of the Lord. We continue to pray for the men and women of the armed services, that they may remain in the protection of God the Father.

Have a wonderful week.
