ST. BONIFACE

Sue Beams

On the Twenty-fifth Sunday in Ordinary Time, members of St. Boniface Catholic Church heard continued instructions on taking up one's cross and being of service to qualify as disciples of Christ.

In the readings, the gift of new life is promised, the passion is foretold, and humility that understands ministry as service is encouraged.

In his homily, Fr. Luke stressed just such humility. The disciples were caught arguing by Jesus about who was the "greatest" or most favored. This was in direct conflict with what Jesus was trying to teach.

One or more of the disciples did not grasp what it truly means to be a disciple. Only when we live with a servant's heart can we know true discipleship.

A humble person accepts reality. A humble person can say "I'm sorry." The Master strengthens us.

By accepting our gifts and talents and using them for the love of God we become disciples of Christ.

A child has no malice within. Children are the symbol of those less fortunate. Accepting others is accepting Christ. Accept everyone in the name of Jesus. Accept others as you would Him.

Prior to the final blessing a painting by Dr. Richard Liptak was presented to the congregation by Altar Society President Iris Mamo. Dr. Liptak humbly accepted our thanks.

The painting was framed with funds donated by the Altar Society and will be hung in the community room for all to enjoy.

Refreshments were enjoyed by members, visitors and guests. An important meeting was hosted to determine the direction of the Passion Play. Varying opinions were expressed. Six members were nominated to form a committee to gather facts and report back to the congregation.

This week, Fr. Luke is going on Retreat with Priests in his order. No weekday Masses are this week. Fr. Luke will return the following week and regular schedules resume.

Those wishing to be included in the new church directory are urged to sign up as soon as possible.

A representative from Olan Mills visited St. Boniface, bringing more information regarding the photo sessions scheduled for Oct. 2-3.

Hi! Kids!: Last week's questions were answered correctly by Maria Adams and Kelsey Barnes. Way to go, girls! A new question can be found in the bulletin. Good luck.

Congratulations and best wishes to those celebrating birthdays and anniversaries.

We pray for those who are sick and suffering. We remember in prayer the souls of the faithful departed. Continue to pray for men and women of the Armed Services.

Have a good week.
