Circus returns to Pow Wow

Paul Bryant Managing Editor

CHANDLER - The Culpepper and Merriweather Circus of Oklahoma is set to return here Oct. 10 for the city's Pow Wow at Winchester Park, Chandler Brownsboro Area Chamber of Commerce Executive Director Bertha Pritchard said.

"Pow Wow has grown over the years, and the circus two years ago was well attended," she said. "We decided to have it again this year. It is the main event."

Culpepper and Merriweather is scheduled to perform on one of Winchester's four ballfields, at 2 and 4:30 p.m. A Chandler Lions Club parade will kick off festivities at 9 a.m., just south of Ellis Motor Co. near FM 315.

Chandler Utilities Superintendent Stanley McCurley is the grand marshal.

About 50 booths had been reserved for Pow Wow, Pritchard said, with 20 more available. Among the food to be served is catfish, barbeque, fried turkey legs, egg rolls, sausage, hamburgers, hot dogs, cakes, pies, and baked potatoes.

"I have people calling right now from Dallas, Longview, Edom, Tyler and other places," Pritchard said.

"Pow Wow is very well known and is well attended. "

This will be the 21st event.

Other vendors will offer crafts, jewelry, apparel, candles, birdhouses and feeders, and other products.

The Chandler Area Economic Development Corporation has planned a chili cook-off, and the Brownsboro Future Farmers of America Booster Club will host a pee-wee rodeo for children between 2 and 12 years old.

Inflatables for kids and train rides will be available, and the Lions Club will set up a dunking booth.
