Dems to host Houston Mayor White in Athens Sunday

White expected to run for Hutchison's seat

White White Lake Area Democrats and Henderson County Democratic Club are scheduled to host Houston Mayor Bill White Sunday during at the Cain Center in Athens.

White is expected to run for the Senate seat potentially vacated by Texas Republican Kay Bailey Hutchison if she runs for governor.

Other Democratic candidates and office holders are also expected to attend the event Sunday.

Henderson, Kaufman, Anderson, Navarro, Van Zandt, Smith and Cherokee residents are planning to attend for an afternoon of food and music and the opportunity to meet White and ask questions about issues facing Texas and the nation.

White received national attention for his leadership following Hurricane Katrina.

He mobilized 100,000 Houstonians in the public, private, business and faithbased communities to help evacuees rebuild their lives.

White was re-elected by margins of 86 percent and 91 percent, and Houston during that time has led the nation's cities in job growth by adding more new jobs than 16 states.
