Sheriff's office promotes Barnhart to sergeant

Henderson County Sheriff 's Deputy Bryan Barnhart has been promoted to sergeant over the transport division, Sheriff Ray Nutt said.

Barnhart's responsibilities will also include oversight of all courthouse security, and he will continue his role as the contact for Henderson County Crime Stoppers.

Barnhart joined the department in 2008 as courthouse security after retiring from the Texas Department of Public Safety. He has been a law enforcement officer for over 32 years, with 27 of those in Henderson County.

The deputy has completed 2,174 hours in Texas Commission on Law Enforcement Officers Standards and Education training, including for traffic operations, special tactics, general terrorism, civil disturbance management, Department of Public Safety riot team, helicopter repelling rescue and techiniques, emergency management/disaster operations and for Marine officer certification.

Barnhart also is certified as a firearms instructor, TCLEOSE instructor and video instructor, and is a licensed master peace officer.
